MOHAWK VIDEO FESTIVAL

Terms and Conditions

PARTICIPANT REGULATIONS:
1. Participants must be a Mohawk College student enrolled in Communication and Media
Entertainment studies or Grade 11 and 12 High School students from Hamilton,
Brantford and Stoney Creek.
2. Participants may work in a team or individually.
3. Participants may submit up to two entries.
4. Teams must register by February 14th, 2011 and submit a completed registration form
with the required non-refundable entry fee of $25* in order to be enrolled in the festival
for the ‘Open Categories’. *Registrations received by January 14, 2011 will be eligible for
an early bird fee of $20.
5. Team members must complete all release and participation forms. Completed forms
must be included with the DVD submission or it will not be judged.
6. Some prizes are set and cannot be increased regardless of the team size. Distribution
of claimed prizes among team members is the determination of the team.
7. Mohawk College, the School of Media and Entertainment at Mohawk College, and
sponsors will not be held legally responsible for participants in the Mohawk Video
Festival.
8. Any Mohawk Video Festival participants caught in illegal activity related to the video’s
production will be immediately disqualified.
9. The top three films in the ‘Open Categories’ (Mohawk College Media Entertainment
students and High School students from Hamilton, Brantford and Stoney Creek) will be
showcased in their entirety at the Mohawk Video Festival.
10. The top Mohawk College third year CanPro video will be shown in its entirety.
11. The top Mohawk College third year Documentary video will be shown in its entirety.
12. Third year Mohawk College Television Broadcasting students can participate in two
categories (Open, Documentary, and CanPro).
13. Clips from all videos entered in the Festival may be used to create a compilation video to
be showcased at the Festival on April 14, 2011.

PRODUCTION REGULATIONS:
1. Videos in the ‘Open Categories’ must be no longer than 7 minutes. Closing credits are
not included in the running time.
2. ALL entries must be submitted in DVD format; however, entries may be produced in any
format.
3. All ‘Open Categories’ entries must be submitted by February 14th, 2011 at Mohawk
College, School of Media and Entertainment, 135 Fennell Avenue West, P.O. Box 2034,
Hamilton, Ontario, L8N 3T2, Attention: Denise Dickie for the Mohawk Video Festival.
4. The theme “Making It Better” must be incorporated in all entries.
5. Videos must be original.
6. Videos must be labeled with the title of the production, group members’ names, e-mails
and phone numbers as well as the run time of the production, and the date.
7. Unauthorized use of copyrighted material will result in disqualification of the submission.
Correctly completed release forms for music, locations and actors must accompany the
entry with cheques payable to Mohawk College.
8. Film content must respect 14A rating stipulations regarding language, violence, nudity,
sex, horror and psychological impact. Entries failing to conform to the 14A rating will be
disqualified. Guidelines are as follows:
14 Adult Accompaniment (14A) Persons younger than 14 years must be
accompanied by an adult.
Language: Coarse language and/or slurs directed to specific segments of
society; sexual references. Infrequent strong, aggressive language
Violence: Portrayals of violence resulting in some bloodletting and/or tissue
damage, which may or may not be fatal. Violence should be within the context of
the film.
Nudity: Full frontal nudity, non-detailed, brief, casual, non-close up, in a non-
sexual situation.
Sexual Activity: Kissing, petting, fondling, implied sexual activity; sexual
innuendo.
Horror: Occasional gory moments and some grotesque images, but these will
not be detailed.
Psychological Impact: Occasional upsetting scenes that will tend to be more
frightening, intense, disturbing - particularly to younger viewers. More mature
themes can be portrayed. Threats with some abusive dialogue may be
considered.
9. Costs associated with the production of the entry are solely the responsibility of the
entrants.

ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS:
1. The Mohawk Video Festival reserves the right to determine entry eligibility and/or to
disqualify any entries as deemed necessary according to Festival regulations.
2. The Mohawk Video Festival reserves the right to make amendments to Festival rules,
prizes, procedure, details and judges at its sole discretion.
