Madison Holleran Research Essay

There are many things that could have caused Madison Holleran to commit

suicide. One reason that would have caused Madison to kill herself was the physical

stress put on her because of track. She was one of the stars of the Penn track teams.

From experience, playing a sport and keeping up with academics is extremely difficult.

Madison Also had to keep up with her social life. Another reason that led Madison to

commit suicide was because of the mental stress she was facing. Madison attended

Penn University which is an Ivy league school. After all the physical pressure she faced,

the mental stress was too much for her causing her to commit suicude.

In my opinion, I feel that the coaches and teammates had nothing to do with the reason

for her death. The coaches were there to push her to do better and they never suspected that

she was too stressed. If the coaches would’ve known that she was too stressed, then they

probably wouldn't have pushed her too hard. I think if Madisson would have communicated

better with her teammates and coaches, then she wouldn't have been as stressed as she was.

Maddisons family and her friends were her support group. Every summer, Madisson

would go with her dad to the US Open tennis show. She was often described as social and

always smiling. Her teammates often described her as motivated and hard - working.

Towards the end of the first semester of her freshman year in college, Madisons mood

drastically changed. She missed the US Open tennis game which she attended annually with
her father. It was at this moment her father knew something was wrong. Her teammates and

friends also noticed that she was becoming less happy and started smiling less.

Maddison could have done multiple things to avoid this tragedy. SHe could have gone to

counseling or talk to her coaches. She even could have quit the track and go to college

normally. There are many things that she could’ve done but she chose to go the hard way.

I think things would’ve been very different is she would've chosen soccer over track.

Since she was young, her heart was in soccer. I think if she went to soccer, she would’ve been

less stressed because soccer is a team sport rather than an individual sport. I feel she would’ve

also been more comfortable with soccer because that was the sport she originally wanted to

pursue.
