Harmony 2 Final Project

INSTRUCTIONS

• Write a tune in AABA form (32 bars), melody and harmony (using chord
symbols). Use at least ONE secondary dominant and ONE modal interchange
chord. Make sure to end on the I chord (depending on your progression, you
may need to add a coda).

Writing the melody:

• Write a motif for the A section and a different motif for the B section.
Manipulate each motif (using at least one of the ways we talked about in class,
i.e., sequence, inversion, expansion, etc.) to develop the melody into an
antecedent/consequent phrase for each of the sections.

• Write out a lead sheet (melody and chord symbols) with 2 treble clefs and
one bass clef. Put the melody in the treble clef and voice lead the chords in
close position in the second treble clef. Put the root of the chord in the bass
clef (or the bass note if you inverted the chord in the chord symbol.) Analyze
the harmony. Indicate also, what the two motifs are and how they are
developed.

• Record the song (sequenced or live).

• Upload the harmonically analyzed lead sheet and an mp3 onto OL.
Due last day of class. - No late projects accepted.
