An Awareness Programme
on
Sexual Harassment at Workplace :
Issues, Implications and Solutions
Saturday, November 30, 2019 (09.00 AM to 05.30 PM)
Preamble

The recent “Me Too” and “Time’s Up” campaigns have once again brought the serious problem of Sexual Harassment
under the spotlight. These have most certainly contributed in bringing about awareness as well as solidarity amongst
the survivors of this scourge. Society, the world over in general and Indian society in particular, seem to have finally got
over its Ostrich Like Approach adopted so far and is willing to discuss the issue threadbare and find lasting solutions. The
flip side has also been exposed with a quite a few for male employees committing suicide based on allegations only,
without anything having been proved.

The management of every organisation realises today that its very existence and growth depends on the best utilisation
of all its resources. This is possible only when its entire workforce is actively engaged towards realisation of the Vision,
Mission and Goals of the organisation, which can happen only when the employees are provided with a respectful
workplace which includes a gender sensitive environment acting as a catalyst for them to utilise their intellectual and
physical capabilities without any hindrance.

The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 has made it
mandatory for employers to organise workshops and awareness programmes at regular intervals for sensitising their
employees. This programme proposes to fulfill this purpose by discussing the issues and implications of sexual
harassment in a very practical and realistic manner, find solutions and to highlight the salient provisions of the law along
with statutory compliances and consequences of non-compliance.
