Title: Electrical Meters

Objective/Purpose: To learn the different procedures of how to safely and effectively measure

resistance and AC and DC voltage and current using a digital multi-meter.

Experiment 1

Procedures:

1. Collect all materials/tools needed to carryout experiment.

2. Using the voltage on the digital multi meter, ensure that the variable power was set to

zero.

3. Switched the digital multi meter in the mode/function to volts.

4. Ensure that everything was reading on the correct scale.

5. Collect all necessary readings.

6. The terminal that the black and red lead were connected to was stated.

Errors:

1. All necessary precautions were taken to avoid any possible human errors.

Experiment 2

Procedures:

2. Collect all materials/tools needed to carryout experiment.

3. All the resistors were tested to ensure whether they were good or bad.

4. Switched the digital multi meter in the mode/function to Ohms.

5. Ensure that everything was reading on the correct scale.

6. Collect all necessary readings.

Errors:

1. All necessary precautions were taken to avoid any possible human errors.

Experiment 3

2. Collect all materials/tools needed to carryout experiment.

3. Using the voltage on the digital multi meter, ensure that the variable power was set to

zero.

4. Switched the digital multi meter in the mode/function to Amps.

5. Ensure that everything was reading on the correct scale.

6. Collect all necessary readings.

7. The terminal that the black and red lead were connected to was stated.

Errors:

1. The power supply was only sending out 1 A, causing the voltage and the resistance to

give incorrect readings.

Conclusion:

Due to the obvious fact that the experiment was able to be carried out, the researcher thinks it’s

safe to say that the objectives were met, which were to learn the different procedures of how to

safely and effectively measure resistance and AC and DC voltage and current using a digital
multi-meter. However, as shown experiment 3 was not quite a success due the fact that the power

supply was only sending out 1 A causing the voltage and resistor to give incorrect readings.

Data Tables:

Experiment 3

Reading Function/Mode Terminal (black and red)
