JOB DESCRIPTION

YAYASAN AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL INDONESIA

JOB TITLE: Community Engagement and Growth Manager (GCE Manager)


AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL ENTITY: Indonesia National Office
LOCATION: Jakarta

JOB PURPOSE: To build and grow a sustainable Amnesty International movement base
in Indonesia that is comprised of highly engaged and empowered supporters and
activists. These supporters and activists will, in turn, mobilise the wider communities to
engage in our human rights campaigns and influence decision-makers to enact
changes.

AI INDONESIA PURPOSE: Amnesty International Indonesia is a national human rights


entity that is part of a global human rights movement. It has been established to
address national human rights priorities as well as create the possibility for people in
Indonesia to join Amnesty International’s global human rights campaigns. Our mission
in Indonesia is to address pertinent national human rights issues through research,
campaigning and human rights education, and to empower Indonesians to take action
on issues that matter to them through AI’s international human rights movement; and to
leverage Indonesia’s influence regionally and globally to promote human rights
domestically, bilaterally and internationally.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL PURPOSE: We campaign for meaningful human rights


change; enable effective human rights activism to persuade decision makers in
governments and private sectors to uphold universal rights standards.

Posts that this job manages:


In the GCE Team, the GCE Manager will manage 2 staff members: Activism and
Resources Coordinator and Community Organising Coordinator; These roles focus on
movement building – ensuring that we have strong constituent base to effect change in
the wider community and in pressuring the government and (or) private sectors.

Some of these staff members may also coordinate staff and (or) interns and volunteers.

Other key relationships


▪ The GCE Manager will join the Senior Management Team consisting of Executive
Director, Finance and Office Manager, Media Manager, Communication Manager,
Campaign Manager, Fundraising Manager and Research Manager.
▪ The GCE Manager will also be expected to liaise with staff from other Amnesty
International National Offices or sections as relevant.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program development and implementation
• Develop, implement and review movement building and growth strategy for AI
Indonesia in line with the organisation’s vision, mission and goals.
• Supervise the design and execution of innovative activism strategies in line with
strategic campaigning opportunities and growth targets that have been identified.
• Oversee the development and implementation of Amnesty International Indonesia’s
Community Organising program that aims to build a strong activist base as a critical
mass for wider mobilisation.
• Monitor the development and implementation of team’s programs in line with our
strategic campaign needs and supporters engagement.
Team leadership and management
• Leadership and management of the GCE team, ensuring the personal and professional
development of team members through training and coaching to achieve maximum
impact.
• Manage, supervise and coordinate staff effectively to get the best out of them.
• Develop processes, systems, policies and procedures to enable best practices and
behaviours within the team.
• Secure required budget to ensure operational sustainability of the team.

Relationship Management
• Working with other teams in AI Indonesia such as Research, Campaign, Fundraising and
Communications team to align priorities with shared organisational goals.
• Liaise with other AI sections to contribute to relevant global projects and obtain
relevant resources and information to enable best practices within the team.
• Relationship management / public relations with external organizations and partners
as needed.
Administration
• Liaise with the Executive Director and Finance and Office Manager to undertake budget
planning and review process.
• Develop quality control mechanism to enable best practices in monitoring and
evaluation of programs and projects.

• Write unit plans and reports.
• Some domestic and international travel may be required

WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE IN THIS JOB?

• S/he would have developed and effectively implemented AI Indonesia’s GCE


strategies that resulted in a highly engaged and empowered supporters and
activists that contribute significantly to making our movement not only
sustainable but also powerful in creating human rights change.
• S/he will have empowered team members to use and develop their competencies
to perform effectively in meeting their goals.
• S/he will have produced, implemented, monitored and evaluated programs to
agreed deadlines with relevant members of their unit team(s);
• S/he will have generated external awareness and activities on AI Indonesia’s
programmes by mobilizing and supporting supporters and expanded networks of
influence in relation to key concerns and priority areas in the Indonesian
strategic plan; and written high quality materials for publication and other
outputs.
• S/he will have contributed to the effective functioning of the team, and to the
implementation of AI Indonesia 's mission, upholding AI Indonesia and AI’s
values at all times

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:


• Extensive campaigning and activism experience, especially one that involves
digital communications and offline mobilization, with a strong track record
delivering successful national and international campaigns.
• Min 7 years of experience in in human rights / international aid / environmental
organization / the broader civil society sector.
• Experience in leading and managing program that requires strong project
management skills and people management skills.
• Training and (or) coaching skills.
• Problem solving skills along with the ability to think strategically, consistently
apply good judgment and make good and responsible decisions.
• Excellent planning, time management and organizational abilities.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English and Bahasa
Indonesia.
• Familiarity with Indonesia policy making processes and politics, and an
understanding of development issues affecting Indonesia is desirable
• Commitment to AI Indonesia’s aims and a clear understanding of the links

between policy, lobbying, campaigning and media work and of how policy change
can be achieved through effective mobilisation.
