Eight Mansion Ring Application

Some feng shui compass or Lou pan holds a ring that contains the Eight Mansion formula.
The Eight Mansion (Ba Zhai) theory formula is also known as the East/West or the 8-
Houses system. This method is widely use today because it is very easy to implement and
believe to yield fast and effective results.

It uses the Gua number of the breadwinner, which can be obtained through mathematical
calculation. The Gua number has a relative association with the 8 Stars, 8 directions and
the 24 mountains.

The ring of the Eight Mansion consists of the following Chinese characters. It represents
the four auspicious and four inauspicious stars.

The Four Auspicious Stars

(Sheng Qi) - Financial luck at its peak, enjoy great health, fill with energy.
(Yan Nian) - Financial luck is great, good health.
(Tien Yi) - Financial luck is good, healthy, support from people around.
(Fu Wei) - Financial luck is minimal, generally healthy.

The Four Inauspicious Stars

(Ho Hai) - Financial luck is bad, legal issues, argument.
(Wu Gui) - Consecutive bankruptcy may occur, bad health.
(Liu Sha) - Luck is bad, disaster after disaster, deteriorating health condition.
(Chueh Ming) - Luck is bad, serious health problem, loss or death.

Calculating the Gua

For females to calculate their Gua number, add the last two digits of the year of your birth
and then add 5 this is your Gua number.
Example
If your date of birth is 10 June 1960
Add the last two digits of your date of birth together
(6+0=6) then add this to 5 (6+5=11) to arrive at a single number add the 11
together (1+1=2) Your Gua number is 2

For males to calculate their Gua number, add the last two digits of the year of your birth
and then subtract it from 10 this is your Gua number.
Example
If your date of birth is 10 June 1960
Add the last two digits of your date of birth together.
(6+0=6) then subtract from 10 (10-6=4) Your Gua number is 4

NOTE:
There is NO Gua 5. If you obtain 5 from your calculations, your Gua will be 2 if
you are a male and 8 if you are a female. Females born after the year 2000 will
need to add 6 instead of 5. Males born after the year 2000 will need to deduct
from 9 instead of 10

Stars Allocation Method 1

The stars are assigned to the eight major directions. This allocation method is known as
the Great Cyclic Year. It gives a general guide of the chi surrounding the main door,
kitchen (cooker) and rooms of a given property.

Stars Allocation Method 2

The second allocation method is known as the Small Cyclic Year. There is no Gua
number to calculate, stars are assigned to the 24 Mountains instead of the 8 directions and
determined by the property’s sitting direction. This method requires a little more work
but just as easy to apply. It is more specific in terms of identifying the good and bad
sector for main door, kitchen, rooms and feng shui items.

Application using Star Allocation Method 1

First calculate the Gua of the head person or bread winner of the family. If he or she
belongs to the North sector, refer to the North sector of the template. You should be able
to locate the ring that has the above characters with the following sequence of reading for
North sector.

Taken from a feng shui template provided in the course,

the same marking can be found on feng shui compasses or Lou pan.

Next is to work with the floor plan of the property, determine the eight directions using a
regular compass. Plot the eight directions on the floor plan using the template and
assigned each character in counter clockwise starting with the North, NE, E, SE, S, SW,
W, NW.

N = (Fu Wei)
NE = (Wu Gui)
E = (Tien Yi)
SE = (Sheng Qi)
S = (Yan Nian)
SW = (Chueh Ming)
W = (Ho Hai)
NW = (Liu Sha)

Once the stars has been allocated, the next step is very easy as you can determine which
direction or sector of the property you want the residence to avoid and which to spend
more time, work or sleep in.

Application using Star Allocation Method 2

In this method of application, there is no Gua number to calculate. It requires the sitting
position of the property according to the 24 mountains. You can obtain the mouontain
reading using the Lou pan or a regular compass. Alternatively, you can use the
complimentary template when you register for the Online Lou Pan Application Course.

With Reference to the diagram, the red circles

indicate the Mountain or Sitting direction. Using
the supplementary table below and allocate the
stars to each of the 24 mountains. Once completed,
you can advice your client where to place their 5
elemental features or cures, tables, etc.
