A Detailed Lesson Plan

in
Science II
Prepared By: Margie F. Baal

I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:

1. Enumerate the ways of conservation electricity and its safety.
2. Classify ways of conserving electricity.
3. Apply on true to life situation the safety precautions of electricity.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Conservation of Electricity; Safety
B. Concept: To conserve electricity and safety precautions
C. Skills: Critical and Higher Order Thinking
D. Values: awareness, thrifty, and wisely
E. Materials: Book and PowerPoint Presentation
F. References: The Scientist In Me 2, pp. 162-172

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activity

Good morning class! Good morning, teacher!

Okay, before you sit down kindly arranged

your chair properly and pick up the pieces of (pupils arrange their chair)
dirt under your chair.

Review
Last meeting, teacher discussed the
sources of electricity.

What are the sources of electricity?

Wind, hydro, geothermal, and fossil

fuel

Very good.

Motivation

Class, I’ll show you some picture and I

want you to name it.

Understand class?
First picture, can you name it?

Television, teacher.

Second, third and last picture?

Electric Kettle, Flat iron and electric fan

Very good, class!

TV, electric fan, flat iron, air conditioner, Electrical appliances

refrigerator and so on are what we called?

Yes, those are electrical appliances that we used

in home.

But class, how electrical appliances work? Electricity, teacher.

Through the use of what?

Very good!

Lesson Proper
Our topic for today is all about conservation
of electricity.
Open your book on page 162.

Who has an idea about conservation of (pupils share their ideas)

electricity?

Class, conservation of electricity means to

save consumption to use it for a long period
of time.

Understand, class? Yes, teacher.

About half of the electricity that humans use

is generated using non-renewable source.

Who can give me an example of non-

renewable sources?

Coal, natural gas, fossil fuel, nuclear

Very good! Those are example of non-
renewable sources.

Therefore, we should conserve electricity to

reduce the consumption of these sources.

Because sometimes, we do not realize that our

daily habits results in wasting electricity.

Examples

What can you see in the picture? Leaving decorative lights on for whole
night.

Switching on television when no one is

using

Those examples are poor practices that waste

electricity.

Class, when we are wasting electricity it also

mean wasting money and resources.

So, to save electricity ;

Here are some ways to save electricity

 Always turn off the electrical

appliances when not in use.
 Hang clothes out to dry instead of
using a dryer.
 Use fans instead of air conditioners.
 Do not open the refrigerators and
freezer too often. The cool air will
escape.
 Wash only full loads when using
washing machines. Use cold water
instead of hot water.
 Using energy-saving bulbs instead of
filament bulb.
B. Analysis

What do you think class the benefits of saving

electricity?

Save electricity means save money

and environment.

Very good!

Saving electricity means saving money and also

resources/environment.

C. Abstract

Class, do you think electricity is important to us?

Yes or no? Yes

Yes, electricity is important to us. However we

should use it with care because it can be
dangerous

Why electricity is dangerous?

Electricity can cause a person to suffer

an electric shock.

Electricity can cause fire.

So as a result, lives may be lost and properties

may be destroyed.

To avoid this to happen, here are some safety

precautions that we should follow when we use
electricity.
 Read the instruction manual of
the electric appliances before
using it.
 Do not use appliances with torn
electric cord.
 Do not overload a socket by
putting too many plugs into it.
 Never touch electric appliances
with wet hands
 Never put anything else except
plugs into the sockets.
 Never pull a plug out by its cord.
Hold the plug instead.

 Keep drinks or water away from

electrical appliances
 Do not climb on power poles.
 Make sure all electric cords are
tucked away, neat and tidy.
 Fly your kite far away from
power lines or substation.

D. Application

Draw a smiley face if the statements

promote electrical safety.

a. We can connect many electrical

appliances to one socket.

b. Never touch a switch with wet hands.

c. We should remove a plug by pulling its

cord.

d. There is a need to replace damaged plugs

and cables.

e. We need to switch off all electrical

appliances after use.

f. We should get faulty electrical appliances

fixed by ourselves

g. Using loose plugs and sockets can help

save money
