2. Distinguish between probability and non-probability sampling.
3. Select an appropriate sampling method for your chosen research topic.

Pre-check students’ knowledge on Probability based on their subject statistics and


probability.
Which situations shows probability?
A. Every 10th student in the seat plan gets to recite.
B. A student with a nail color will answer this item.
C. The teacher will choose a student to answer the question
D. If you stay stop twice teacher’s pen will stop on the name of the next student
who will answer this item.
E. The student who answered in letter D will pick a name from the box. The
student whose name will be drawn from the box will answer this item.

2. Motivation
Pretend that you are cooking a meal for your family. You are preparing your
specialty dish- pork adobo and sinigang na bangus- and, of course steamed white
rice to complete the meal. You are almost finished, but you want to check if
everything tastes good and just the way your family likes it. What will you do?

1. Of course, you do not need to eat everything to find out how the dishes taste.
But how much do you need to find out whether or not the dishes are as
desired?
2. How do you think is this related to our topic which is sampling?

3. Presentation
-Introduce Sampling in research.
-Discuss the sampling, population, sampling frame, and its brief history.
-Explain the distinction between probability and probability
-Present the different types of sampling and its procedures.

4. Discussion
-Why do researchers draw samples instead of examining entire population?
-Why does the sample need to be the representative of the population?
-Which do you think is a more appropriate sampling procedure for a qualitative
research? Why do you think so?

5. Developing Mastery
Practice: Identify the type of sampling for research.
A sampling method where all members of the population are given equal chances to
be included in the sample.

6. Application
Pick one sampling method that you think is appropriate for your research topic and
show to class how it will be done.

Generalization: Let us conclude our lesson by appreciating what Miguel de Cervantes


from Don Quixote said, “By a small sample, we may judge of the whole piece.” How do
you appreciate this quote?
