Likewise, the Australian author Rosalie Ham believes that everyone reaps what s/he sows, so she

succeeds in telling the story of Tilly Dunnage who manages to take her revenge of not only one person
but a whole town. In The Dressmaker (2000), Tilly was sent away from her mother at the age of ten
because of false accusations of murder, after the death of fellow student Stewart Pettyman. Later, she
returns to her hometown to take care of her old unstable mother as well as to remember whether she is
truly a murderer or an innocent one besides the truth behind being cursed. Tilly, apparently, has a list of
longtime-enemies who made her childhood a miserable nightmare. This list starts with “Miss
Harridene”, the school teacher who fabricated and lied as she witnessed against Tilly as a child, although
she saw nothing, only because Pettyman was her favorite student. Also, “Percival Almanac”, the vicious
alchemist, who used to bully her and call her mother bad names. In addition to “Evan Pettyman”, the
town councilor and Stewart’s dad whom she later knows that he is her father, who was drugging,
assaulting her mum at night and pushing her towards suicide. The list in fact goes on while she is using
her outstanding dressmaking talent to reach her goals till she decides to burn the whole town after the
death of her mother and her lover “Ted McSwiney”, as she takes the leaving train. The Dressmaker
exquisite movie, directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, features the adapted interesting femme fatal battle of
vengeance full of complications and revelations. The leading role is played by Kate Winslet who excelled
in revealing the psychological struggle and emotional conflict of the character against an abhorrent
community.

That is why the New York Times bestseller Black and Blue by Anna Quindlen achieved great reviews as it
exceptionally tells the story of Fran Benedetto, a lover, a wife and a mother who afforded abuse and
domestic violence for eighteen years because she wanted her son to have a father, no matter what. So,
she kept on hiding her bruises, faking her smiles and forgiving until she realizes that enough is enough.
Once she found out that she is not doing the best for herself and her son by remaining silent and
passive, she decided to run a way and start over in another city, but she did not forget her revenge. It
was only a matter of time till she got ready for their inevitable confrontation as she learnt how to be a
fighting machine and pay him his punches back. This inspiring novel was adapted into a successful
thriller movie starring Jennifer Lopez who managed to recreate the main character physically and
emotionally, so as to sound realistic in delivering such an important message of how women should
defend themselves their kids in similar aggressive situations.
