INSTRUCTOR
The Consumer Protection Act is an Act enacted to protect the interests of consumers in India.
Checking unfair trade practices, defects in goods and deficiencies in services are considered
in consumer protection. There are many consumer organisations and NGOs to create
awareness in consumers.
In this topic we will discuss the consumer protection act with the help of different case laws.
The provisions and importance of consumer protection act has also been discussed.
In this project, we will completely cover the concept of consumer protection act.

OBJECTIVITY OF THE STUDY


1. To completely understand the concept of consumer protection act.

2. To know the difficulty involved in the concept.

3. To substantiate and elaborate the concept.

The study is limited to the consumer protection act, it’s provisions and importance.

The study helps us to know the concept of consumer protection. It also helps us to study
different case laws by which the concept has been evolved. Different provisions of consumer
protection act and exceptions will be understand by the study.

ABSTRACT

Topic: ‘Consumer Protection Act’

The Consumer Protection Act (COPRA) is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted to secure
the interests of consumers in India. The consumer councils and other authorities for the
settlement of consumer's grievances are established at the national, state and district level to
increase consumer awareness. Consumer Protection is a term given to a practice where we protect
the consumer from the unfair practice, creating awareness in them about their rights and
responsibilities. The objectives of central council is to promote and protect the rights of
consumers. The three tier system of council courts national commission, state commission and
district forum have their own jurisdiction. The Consumer Protection Bill, 1986 was passed by
both the Houses of Parliament. The consumer protection acts of 1991, 1993, 2002 are amended
acts. The Indian Parliament, on 6 August 2019, passed the landmark Consumer Protection Bill,
2019 which aims to provide the timely and effective administration and settlement of consumer
disputes. The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (New Act) received the assent of the President
of India and was published in the official gazette on 9 August 2019.
