Statistical Treatment of the Data

The data gathered were subjected to appropriate statistical tools give as follows:

To analyze the result of the study, the researchers used relative frequency for

problem 1, weighted mean for problem 2, chi-square for problem 3 and t-test for problem

4.

1. To determine the demographic profile of the students, relative frequency was used.

The formula given as:

𝑓
RF= 𝑛.100

Where RF – relative frequency

f – frequency of respondents

N – total number of respondents

2. To determine how contemporary teaching methods affect the academic

performance of the students, weighted mean was used. The formula is:

𝑁
Σ 𝑖 = 𝑓 𝑖𝑥 𝑖
𝜇=
𝑁

Where 𝜇 - weighted mean

Σ – summation

f – frequency of response

x – weight of the scale

N – total number of cases

In determining the impacts of contemporary teaching methods to students’

reading comprehension and demonstrating skills assessed by the students, Likert

Scale was used.

Table B

Legend

Scale Verbal Interpretation

3.26 – 4.00 Highly Manifested (HM)

2.51 – 3.25 Moderately Manifested (MM)

1.76 – 2.50 Less Manifested (LM)

1.00 – 1.75 Not at All (NA)

3. To determine the significant relationship between the demographic profile of the

respondents and their reading comprehension and demonstrating skills, Pearson

R was used. The formula is:

(𝑂−𝐸)
𝜒2 = Σ 𝐸

Where Σ - summation

O – observed cases

E – expected cases

Decision Rule:

If 𝜒 2 computed <𝜒 2 tabular value, 𝐻𝑂 is accepted;

If 𝜒 2 computed >𝜒 2 tabular value, 𝐻𝑂 is rejected.
