EXERCISE 1
Part 1 & 2
Variables Explored : Median Age of countries
Objective: Analyse the median age of residents of different countries and relating with HDI

Countries (Data points for analysis) : 179

Data Sources: UN and World Bank

Descriptive Stats
Parameter Values (Median Age)
Mean 29.72
Standard Error 0.66
Median 28.60
Mode 19.70
Standard Deviation 8.77
Sample Variance 76.97
Kurtosis -1.17
Skewness 0.20
Range 31.90
Minimum 15.40
Maximum 47.30
Sum 5319.30
Count 179.00
Largest(50) 36.50
Smallest(50) 23.00

Observation: Median age of the world is 28.6 years (If countries have been given equal
weightage, regardless of population) Range of the median age is 31.90 years. With minimum
and maximum age being 15.40 and 47.30 years, which is a huge variation.

Observation: As we can see from the box plot, there are no outliers.

HDI

Observation: As we can see from the above graphs, the median age of countries increases
with increase in HDI. Coefficient of determination is 0.7746 for polynomial relation with
degree 2.

The reason for this could be better life style, low death rate , better medical facilities, in
highly developed countries wrt to less developed countries. Although we require more
detailed analysis to ascertain the fact.
