Salle, kampeon sa UAAP men's

basketball
UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament nitong Linggo.

nina Ricci Rivero at season Most Valuable Player Ben Mbala.

PVL: Creamline smashes Chef's
Classics for 3rd straight win
MANILA - (UPDATED) The Creamline Cool Smashers stamped their class over Chef's Classics, securing a swift
25-12, 25-5, 25-15 triumph on Sunday in the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The dominant win, which saw the Cool Smashers twice take 16-1 leads, gave the defending champions a 3-0 start to
the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference. This is also their third consecutive straight-sets victory.

Skipper Alyssa Valdez put up 16 points -- including 7 aces -- while Jema Galanza had 11 points and Michele
Gumabao added 10 markers, 5 of which came off blocks. The Cool Smashers had 32 kills, while nabbing 22 free
points off the Red Spikers' errors.

"Siguro malaking bagay sa amin, lalo na next game namin is BanKo. So mas confident kami sa game namin, and
tsaka 'yung sabi ni Ate Ly, 'yung connection at saka 'yung chemistry namin, andoon na," said Galanza after the
game.

Valdez noted that they were well-prepared for Chef's Classics, having watched their three-set loss to Motolite on
Saturday.

"Mas nakapag-aral din kami, and mas napaghandaan din namin, napanood namin 'yung game kahapon siguro kaya
mentally, we're also prepared," she explained.

The Cool Smashers raced to a 16-1 lead in the first set, though a late run by the Red Spikers allowed them to break
into double-digits before Galanza's rejection of Cecilla Bangad ended the frame.

They showed no mercy in the second frame, however. With Valdez at the service line, the Cool Smashers led 19-1 as
the former Ateneo star scored three aces, while Gaanza and Celine Domingo scored at will at the frontline.

"I'm confident na kahit nasa likod ako, may tumutulong, sila Jema, na nasa front to always kill the ball," said Valdez.
"So kahit lakasan ko 'yung bola or mag-error ako, laging may bawi."

Chef's Classics' 5-point outing in the second set was the lowest ever in club competition in the history of the PVL.

The Red Spikers played better in the third set, even briefly leading 2-0, before a 6-0 blast by Creamline put them in
control. Chef's Classics also saved five match points when Tai Bundit yanked out his starters, but a tip by Rose
Vargas completed Creamline's win in just 66 minutes.

The statistics showed how lopsided the game was, as Chef's Classics only tallied 14 kills -- four less than Valdez and
Galanza combined. They had only two blocks to Creamline's 11, and only 3 aces to Creamline's 10. Valdez, by
herself, served 35 times while the Red Spikers served 33 times as a team.

Nieza Viray led the Red Spikers with 7 points. Chef's Classics dropped to 0-2 in the conference.
PBA D-League: TIP eyes Top 2
spot, Marinero looks for playoff
berth
MANILA, Philippines -- Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) will try to secure a Top 2 spot in Group B
when it battles cellar-dweller Alberei on Monday in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports
Arena in Pasig.

Toting a 4-1 win-loss record, the Engineers will be the first to wrap up their elimination round schedule, and they are
determined to secure a twice-to-beat edge heading into the quarterfinals.

"It's going to be big for us," said coach Potit de Vera, whose side wants to end the preliminaries with a 3-game
winning streak. "We want to have that momentum before going on a long break."

However, TIP might have to play without Senegales big man Papa Ndiaye, who is recovering from a hamstring
injury.

That puts a bigger responsibility on Russel Tan, Bryan Santos, and GC Carurucan, who will try to lead TIP in the
game that starts at 1:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Marinerong Pilipino is also looking to lock up a playoff spot at 3:30 p.m. when it takes on Asia's Lashes
Tomas Morato (2-1).

The Skippers benefited from the sudden withdrawal of Nailtalk-St. Dominic Savio as they now hold a 3-0 card in
Group A, putting them a win closer of punching a ticket to the next round.

Adding to that has been the stellar play of veterans Eloy Poligrates and JR Alabanza, who, together with young
forward Jhonard Clarito, helped Marinerong Pilipino snag a 91-82 win over AMA last August 8.

However, coach Yong Garcia said they cannot be complacent.

"Marami pa kaming dapat ayusin dahil 'yung chemistry talaga ang key para sa amin," he said.

Hyperwash (1-2) caps off the triple-header when it shoots for back-to-back wins against McDavid-La Salle Araneta
(0-2) at 5:30 p.m.
PVL: PetroGazz gets first win at
BaliPure's expense
MANILA - (UPDATED) The PetroGazz Angels chalked up their first win of the 2019 Premier Volleyball League
(PVL) Open Conference after making quick work of the BaliPure Purest Water Defenders on Sunday at the FilOil
Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Behind a superb game from middle blocker Jeanette Panaga, the Angels cruised to a 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 triumph,
allowing them to recover from an opening day loss to BanKo Perlas.

Panaga put up 16 points on 12 kills, 3 blocks, and an ace, while Paneng Mercado added 9 points. The Angels
peppered the Water Defenders with a whopping 42 attack points, while absorbing only 24 kills on their end.

"Last time (against BanKo Perlas), pagdating sa mindset, makikitang mong off talaga," PetroGazz coach Arnold
Laniog said of his team. "Hindi totally naka-focus sa ginagawa last time."

The Angels had given away 30 points off errors in a four-set loss to the Pearl Spikers last Sunday, but limited
themselves to 22 this time around.

"This time, nag-error pero yung mga error na for me is acceptable," said Laniog.

PetroGazz pulled away from a tight first set, 18-all, thanks to blocks by Maricar Baloaloa and Panaga that sparked a
4-0 burst that put them in control of the frame. They cruised to victory in the second set, but the Water Defenders put
up a fight in the third set, even leading 9-7 off a quick hit by Satriani Espiritu.

But Panaga anchored a 7-0 blast, which saw the former St. Benilde star pounce on BaliPure's erratic reception,
allowing PetroGazz to gain control, 14-9.

BaliPure would be unable to recover, and the Water Defenders slumped to their second straight defeat of the
tournament. They have yet to win a game in the PVL this year.

Grazielle Bombita led the Water Defenders with 11 points.

Pacquiao, namigay ng balato sa
Sarangani

Sarangani Province.

"He just thought of going there. He did not inform the media. He just wanted to visit the Pacman village and gave
out P1,000 for the adults and P500 for the kids," ayon kay Sisson.

"Kaya ayon takbuhan kami lahat at nagpila talaga. Nabigyan ako P1,000, binili ko kaagad ng bigas. Salamat talaga

"Not just the Pacman villagers. There are times that along the highway, he would stop by a tricycle driver or a
jeepney driver. He talks to them and then give out some cash," ani Sison.
