Find the value of the smaller of the two roots.

box, and Screw C cost P50 per box. How many
boxes of screw A did he buy?
4. A sales engineer was able to sell 200 pieces of
assorted steel sections for P200,000. They are of
three types namely: (a) Wide flange at P3000/pc. (b)
Channel at P1500/pc. (c) Angle bars at P500/pc.
How many wide flanges did he sell?
5. Find the smallest number which when you divide by
2, the remainder is 1, you divide by 3, the remainder
is 2, you divide by 4, the remainder is 3, you divide
by 5, the remainder is 4, and when you divide by 6,
the remainder is 5.
6. Mary is 36 years old. Mary was twice as old as Ann
was when Mary was as old as Ann is now. How old
is Ann?
7. Mary is 24 years old. Mary is twice as old as Ann was
when Mary was as old as Ann is now. How old is
Ann?
8. Mary is twice as old as Ann was when Mary was as
old as Ann is now. When Ann is as old as Mary is
now, together their age is 56. How old is Ann?
9. The sum of the ages of the father and his son is 99.
If the age of the son is added to the inverted age of
the father, the sum is 72. If the inverted age of the
son is subtracted from the age of the father, the
difference is 22. What are their ages?
10. Allan had wrapped 500 pcs. of candies when Ben
helped him and together they wrapped 1260 more.
Allan worked for a total of 24 minutes. If Allan
worked for 24 minutes and Ben for 12 minutes,
they will be able to wrap 1680 candies. On the
average, how many candies can Allan wrap per
minute?
11. A contractor estimated that a project will be
finished by his crew in 60 days. After the crew
worked for 40 days, 38 workers stopped working.
If the remaining workers will continue at the same
rate, they will be delayed by 5 days. How many
workers are there in the original crew? Assume
that the rate of all workers are equal.
12. A tank contains a mixture of acid and water. If 30
liters of acid are added the mixture will be 70%
acid, if 30 liters of water are added the mixture will
be 50% acid. Find the percentage of acid in the
original mixture.

13. How much gold and how much silver must be
added to 100 kg of an alloy containing 40% gold
and 10% silver to produce an alloy containing 50%
gold and 20% silver?
14. Admission tickets to A1 concert were P400 for
adults and P125 for children. Receipts for the day
showed that 2700 persons attended and P887,500
was collected. How many children attended that
day?
15. The sum of two numbers is 68. If the larger is
divided by the smaller, the quotient is 4 and the
remainder is 8. Find the smaller number.
16. The first of three number exceeds the third by one-
third of the second. The sum of the second and
third numbers is 8 more than the first. If the second
is subtracted from the sum of the first and third
numbers, the result is 32. Determine the first
number.
17. Buloy has certain number of eggs in his basket. He
sold half of those eggs plus half of an egg. He
again sold half of his remaining eggs plus half of
an egg. He again sold half of his remaining eggs
plus half of an egg. He counted the remaining eggs
and found 11 pcs. Originally, how many eggs does
Buloy have?
18. In a racing contest, there are 240 cars which will
have fuel provision that will last for 15 hours.
Assuming a constant hourly consumption for each
car, how long will the fuel provision last if 8 cars
withdraw from the race every hour after the first?
19. An absent minded watch repair technician
carelessly switched the mountings of the hands of
a watch; putting the hour hand on the minute hand
pinion, and the minute hand to hour hand pinion.
Thus, their speeds were interchanged. If the time
of mounting was 8 o’clock in the morning, when will
that watch tell a correct time?
20. Three people, A, B, and C rode in a minibus that
has six vacant seats on each side. In how many
ways can they be seated if A insists on sitting at
the right side of the minibus?
