History of Barangay Sta. Elena
barangay of the mother barangay Sta. Elena. It is located near the Poblacion. This
adjacent was possible by the virtue of the Provincial Board Resolution No. 145-A on June
16, 1969. Four barangays were created namely Barangay Lanao, Marcelo Alberto and
Constantino and retain the name of the mother Barangay Sta. Elena which is being
located in the forefront of the población. At present in zoning code, they are astill
barangay Sta. Elena. On October 19, 1989, Municipal Resolution 60-89 (Annex A)
designated the existing creek (Gogon River) as the permanent boundary between
barangay Constantino and barangay Sta. Elena, Virac, Catanduanes, a week after,

The adjacent barangay Lanao was once a wide and substantial land filled with
water and this area was once called Danao. As time pass by, this wide area of water was
filled with land caused by different calamities primarily typhoon. The wide range of land
was discovered by the people from other places and they have noticed that the
condition of the land is good for planting crops and other agricultural plants. This place is

Goal:
The total population of Barangay St. Elena, Lanao when it was created were two
hundred sixty-five (265) with twenty-five families (25). At present the said Barangay has
a total population of one thousand one hundred fifty-two (1,152) with two hundred
forty-seven total number of households. There are also one hundred twenty-four total
The barangay was acknowledged for its improvements every year, one of these is
the infrastructure plan, which comprises the cemented roads and improved bridge.
Another improvement that can be seen in the Barangay Lanao are the facilities available
for all the community members one of which is the improved Barangay Health Center.
The barangay also recognizes the advancement of technology that is why they held a
FREE WIFI and make their computer available for students which are necessary for their
research and assignment, they can utilize this by asking permission to the barangay staff.
CCTV cameras are presently installed for the security of the people inside the barangay
and also for the people of neighboring barangays. Another one is the generator which is
already present so that in case of emergency such as typhoon and other calamities there

evacuation center which is necessary during calamities, seminars and trainings for
improved barangay session hall and barangay plaza that are beneficial for the welfare of

The officials of barangay Lanao established an annual activity and program such
as Linggo ng Kabataan that gives opportunity for the youth to showcase their talents and
for them to be recognized and be heard their own voices regarding the issues inside the
barangays. They also have an Anti-Drug Campaign that raise awareness on the negative
effect of drugs.
The school that was built in barangay Lanao is JMAMES which stands for Juan M.
governor of Catanduanes, Juan M. Alberto for his hard work in service and dedication to
build the school. It was started as small school but now, it is already one of the schools
which produces excellent students. He was very dedicated to build the school for the
children to have a place to learn. The former governor believed that the children of
Barangay Sta. Elena, Lanao should have a proper place to learn for them to create their
own future.
