The population of Rawalpindi city as rapidly increased day by day which resulted in the
expansion of the city. The problems such as housing, water supply and sanitation and traffic
congestion came into existence.

In order to tackle such problems the Rawalpindi Development Authority has given priority to
the remoulding / rehabilitation of the city roads. In order to address the emerging traffic
problems in the city of Rawalpindi, RDA has been taken a task to up -graduation and
rehabilitate Khyban-e-Sirsyed main road on priority basis. Khyban-e-Sirsyed 80¶ wide road is
major link of the city starting from IJ Principal Road to Dhoke Dalal, Central area of
Rawalpindi and Murree Road through Asghar Mall road. Khyban-e-Sirsyed road is a major
road of the city starts from Dhok Dalal Bridge at Lai Nullah to IJP road in north and ends in
I-10 sector, Islamabad.

The completion will provide tremendous relief to the communities of the area and will be
helpful in overcoming the traffic problems such as time delays, consumption of fuel and
traffic congestion.

The project is designed to rehabilitate the roads by doing excavations and compactions of
earthwork followed by patch work to lay sub-base of stones up to required depth. The pre-
mixed asphalt is removed and compacting of concrete cement plain is done to lay tuff pavers
followed by disposal os excavation surplus.

Painted kerb-stone is erected and storm water catchment basins are constructed for the
drainage and sewage system. Reflective traffic signs and signboards are erected throughout
the road and to facilitate further, pavement marking and road marking is also done.

º? The total estimated cost of the project was 35.424 Million as:

Estimated cost = Rs. 34,392,500

Contingencies (3%) = Rs. 1,031,775

Actual cost = Rs. 34,110,091

Contingencies (3%) = Rs. 1,023,303

Rawalpindi Development Authority had initially assigned a maximum time limit of 1 year
from September 2009-2010 that makes a total of 6 weeks.

The project has actually been completed in almost 0.92 year from 19 th September 2009 till 9 th
September 2010 that makes a total of 97 weeks.
