I. Pre-Installation
NOTICE
Before using copper for steam piping, consider the following characteristics of copper piping:
1) High coefficient of thermal expansion can induce mechanical stresses and cause expansion/
contraction noises if not accounted for in the piping system design and installation,
2) High heat transfer rate (heat loss) of un-insulated copper piping must be included in the normal piping
and pickup factors used to size the boiler,
3) Soldering or brazing pastes and fluxes that end up in the system can cause poor heat transfer, surging,
an unsteady water line and wet steam if not thoroughly removed during boil out procedure and,
4) Galvanic corrosion of the adjoining metal may occur due to dissimilar metals in certain water chemistries
if dielectric unions are not used.

G. If an Existing Boiler is Removed: ANSI Z223.1.
When an existing boiler is removed from a common
venting system, the common venting system is likely
to be too large for proper venting of the appliances
remaining connected to it.
At the time of removal of an existing boiler, the
following steps shall be followed with each appliance
remaining connected to the common venting system
placed in operation, while the other appliances
remaining connected to the common venting system are
not in operation:
a. Seal any unused openings in the common venting
system.
b. Visually inspect the venting system for proper
size and horizontal pitch and determine there is no
blockage or restriction, leakage, corrosion, and other
deficiencies which could cause an unsafe condition.
c. Insofar as is practical, close all building doors and
windows and all doors between the space in which

CAUTION
This boiler contains controls which may cause the boiler to shut down and not restart without service. If
damage due to frozen pipes is a possibility, the heating system should not be left unattended in cold weather;
or appropriate safeguards and alarms should be installed on the heating system to prevent damage if the
boiler is inoperative.

Warning:
The Repair Parts list designates parts that contain refractory ceramic fibers
(RCF). RCF has been classified as a possible human carcinogen. When
exposed to temperatures about 1805°F, such as during direct flame contact,
RCF changes into crystalline silica, a known carcinogen. When disturbed as a
result of servicing or repair, these substances become airborne and, if inhaled,
may be hazardous to your health.
