1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this Procedure is to outline the method and sequence of work and
highlight the aspects, which requires special attention during demolition period as
per scope of work.

2.0 SCOPE

This document details the steps & procedures to be complied for dismantling of
bottling plant at QP refinery at Mesaeed along with brief scope and respective
photos.

2.1 Removal and disposal of side/ roof sheets

2.2 Removal and disposal of asbestos sheets

2.3 Removal of steel structural shades

2.4 Removal of plant equipment including rails, cylinders, pipes and pipelines.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

4.1 Project Manager: Is responsible for the execution of this procedure and to
ensure that the work shall be carried out in a safe manner within the agreed time
frame and to the requisite quality.

4.2 Safety Engineer: Responsible for implementation of safety procedure on site


conforming QP/QCS Standards. He can assign safety officers to ensure that the
work proceeds in accordance with the procedures provided in a safe manner and
complying with good work practices. All safety officers on day/night shifts will have
knowledge and understanding of environmental issues.

4.3 Worksite Supervisor: With PTW certificate shall be responsible for the
responsible for the execution and progress of all works according to approved
drawings/specifications. work permit system and progress as well as safety
requirements.

5.0 EQUIPMENTS AND HANDTOOLS

• Crane with QP certification.


• Lifting gear with QP certification
• Gas cutting set, grinding machine, wire brush, hammer, hack saw with Blade etc.

6.0 SAFETY

6.1 General Safety Precautions

• All Installation / Construction works will be undertaken in accordance with DLP’S


HSE Manual approved by QP and QP Standards.
• Work Permit shall be obtained from QP prior to any work being carried out.
• All necessary Personnel Protective Equipment will be provided and worn.
• Where scaffolding installed for access to each location (installed by QP Sub
contractor) shall be used only by verification of scaff. tag and confirm safe to
work.
• The work areas will be kept in a clean and tidy condition.

• Workmen those who are working at higher elevation shall be worn certified safety
harness.
• All electrical machineries shall be checked for trouble free operation during
execution of work.
• All personnel shall undergo H2S Training and QP induction.
• Pre-job talks should be done before starting of the job on daily basis and record
to be maintained.
• Safety barricading hard/soft should be installed in the working radius pending on
the nature of the job.
• Safety fire watch and supervisor shall be available all the time during job
execution.
• All the equipment’s to be used shall be inspected and approved by QP/TPI.

6.2 Hazards Involved

6.3 PPE Requirements

6.3.1 The personnel entering the QP shall have proper hard hats, Safety goggles
safety shoes & full sleeve Coverall.

6.3.2 H2S detector per group shall be provided.

6.3.3 Full body harness with TPI certification shall be used at higher elevation.

6.4 Requirement of Work Permit

The job condition requires the following work permits to be issued and posted at the
site.

• Cold work permit.


• Spark Potential Ignition permits.
• Hot work permit.
• Isolation certificate

7.0 TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND MANPOWER

7.1 Tools and Equipments

 Grinding Machines.

8.0 WORK PROCEDURE

8.1 SITE ESTABLISHMENT

8.1.1 The building will be situated within a secure site boundary made up of Heras
fencing, to enclose the working areas / exclusion zones within the site.

8.1.2 Warning signs will be displayed at the appropriate points around the perimeter
of the site

8.2 Removal and disposal of side/ roof sheets

8.2.1 Movable Scaffolding material has to be inspected prior to use.

8.2.2 After completing the inspection, scaffolding to be placed in the proper place
so as to start the side sheet removal.

8.3 Removal and disposal of asbestos sheets

8.3.1 Where asbestos is found onsite, a suitably approved licensed Asbestos


Removal Contractor will be appointed to carry out the removal of all asbestos
containing products.

8.3.2 Wear appropriate protective equipment and clothing such as wide brimmed
hats, long-sleeved tops, long trousers and sunglasses

8.3.3 Pre identify areas of building/floors to be stripped of asbestos

8.3.4 Workers to avoid breakage of the sheets when removing. The sheets should
also be lowered to the ground and not dropped.

8.3.5 Where sheeting is attached by bolts, Workers are to undo the bolts where
possible or dampen the area around the bolt and use bolt cutters to remove the
head (screws and bolts to be disposed of as asbestos waste).

8.3.6 Where sheeting is attached by nails, should be removed from the roofing
sheets using an oxy-torch or other suitable device that will not significantly damage
the sheet allowing the sheet to be removed in one piece (nails and any sheeting
around the nails to be removed of as asbestos waste)

8.3.7 NO Workers are allowed to use power tools and compressed air to cut,
dislodge, remove or clean asbestos sheets.

8.3.8 Remove sheeting from below the roof using elevated work platforms such as
portable scaffolds or using crane which will be ready in site.

8.3.9 All ground conditions should be checked prior to remote demolition by DLP's
site in charge

8.3.10 It is important that the machine is in the correct position to the work face

8.3.11 Area to be barricaded properly before execution of work.

8.4 Removal of steel structural shades

8.4.1 Necessary scaffolding installation will be arranged prior to demolition work.

8.4.2 Prior to any structural demolitions taking place, the site supervisor and plant
operatives will walk the building to familiarise themselves with the building and any
potential issues.

8.4.2 The site will be enclosed by use of heras type fencing. Warning signs will
also be displayed on the site boundary in clear and visible positions.

8.4.3 Once the building has been reduced to a steel frame, it will be systematically
cut down using the gas cutter.

8.4.4 Each roof truss will be cut free of the head of one of the supporting columns
and lowered towards the ground; the other end of the roof truss will be free of the
head of the supporting column and lowered to the ground.

8.4.5 All steel will be removed from the site in suitable skips that will be transported
from the site for disposal.

8.5 Removal of plant equipment including rails, cylinders, pipes and


pipelines

8.5.1 All mechanical/Electrical services will be isolated by QP

8.5.2 All the equipments will be removed from the site using gas cutter , grinding
machine, Hammer etc..

8.5.3 Once all the Equipments are removed from the site, we will keep all in a
desired point which is accessible to both the crane & vehicle.

8.5.4 Once all the items are loaded in the vehicle by using a crane the same will be
handover to Qatar Steel as mentioned in the scope of work.
