Introduction
The project work was undertaken from M/S Focus Energy Ltd., New Delhi. The proposal
was for analysis of seven Drill Cutting samples of Wells drilled in Block RJ-ONN-2003/2
in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan to ascertain the presence of Basement Rocks. The samples were
brought to ISM by the client.

Sample Preparation
The samples were cleaned and physically examined for colour and texture. Thin sections of
the samples were prepared and the mineral identifications were carried out under transmitting
polarizing microscope. The report contains details of each sample and the overall
interpretation arising out of observations.

Sample No. N#1

Sample Description

This sample is from Nachna#1 (1171m-1176m).

Observation of sample

The sample is felsic in nature with visible subhedral to subrounded grains of quartz and
feldspar. Some of the grains are altered. The thin section of the sample shows presence of
quartz and feldspar constituting 80% of the section. Large altered fragments constitute about
15% of the rock. These may be feldspars. The remaining constituents are identified as
sphene, zircon and tourmaline (bluish-green).

Interpretation

The samples are apparently derived from a felsic source rock which may be the rocks of
Delhi Supergroup in Rajasthan (Malani Igneous suite).

Sample No. N#2

Sample Description

This sample is from Nachna#2 Alt. (1055m).

Observation of sample

The sample is felsic in nature with subrounded grains of quartz. Some altered grains are also
present. The thin section of the sample shows presence of quartz constituting 70% of the
section. The altered fragments constitute about 25% of the rock and may be feldspars. The
remaining constituents are opaque in nature.

Interpretation

The dominantly subrounded grains of the sample apparently indicate derivation from a
sedimentary/metasedimentary source rock which may be the rocks of Delhi Supergroup in
Rajasthan.

Sample No. N#3

Sample Description

This sample is from Nachna#3 (1245m to 1250m).

Observation of Sample

The sample is felsic in nature with visible subhedral to subrounded grains of quartz. Some
altered grains are also present. The thin section of the sample shows presence of quartz and
feldspar constituting 90% of the section. The altered fragments constitute about 5% of the
rock. The remaining constituents include blue coloured tourmaline and brown biotite.

Interpretation

The samples are apparently derived from a felsic source rock which may be the rocks of
Delhi Supergroup in Rajasthan (Malani Igneous suite).

Sample No. N#4

Sample Description

This sample is from Nachna#4 (1225m - 1230m).

Observation of Sample

The sample is felsic in nature with visible subhedral to subrounded grains of quartz. Some
altered grains are also present. The thin section of the sample shows presence of quartz and
feldspar constituting 60% of the section. The altered fragments constitute about 35% of the
rock, which may be the feldspars. The remaining constituents include blue-green coloured
pleochroric minerals which are tourmaline and biotite.

Interpretation

The samples are apparently derived from a felsic source rock which may be the rocks of
Delhi Supergroup in Rajasthan (Malani Igneous suite).

Sample No. N#5

Sample Description

This sample is from Nachna#5 (1045m to 1050m).

Observation of Sample

The sample is mafic in nature with visible fragment of carbonaceous matter. Some altered
grains are also present. The thin section of the sample shows presence of altered grains with
circular to subhedreal sections. These constitute about 90% of the section. The remaining
constituents are about 5% of the rock. The colourless minerals may be feldspar/quartz.

Interpretation

The samples are apparently derived from a mafic source rock which may be the rocks of
Delhi Supergroup in Rajasthan (Malani Igneous suite) or may be the Deccan Traps.

Sample No. N#6

Sample Description

This sample is from Nachna#6 (1097m).

Observation of Sample

The sample is felsic in nature with visible subhedral to subrounded grains of quartz. Some
altered grains are also present. The thin section of the sample shows presence of quartz and

Sample No. J#2

Sample Description

This sample is from Jbb#2 (1145m to 1150m).

Some
grains of sphene have been identified from the section.

Interpretation

Delhi Supergroup in Rajasthan (Malani Igneous suite) or may be the Deccan Traps.
