Collaborative Listening and Viewing Guide

Purpose: To help students learn from visual information

Description: CLVG is a lesson framework to help students learn from information observed and/or heard.

Procedure:

1. Preview/Review information. Give an overview of the topic and pre-teach significant terms if needed.

2. Record individually. Instruct the class to write down significant ideas, concept or phrases on their
notebook. Students should be instructed to be brief and just use abbreviations.

3. Elaborate in small groups. After viewing the video, have the students get into groups to elaborate on
their individual notes.

4. Synthesize with whole class. Instruct the students to cooperate and contribute what they learned into
their group and then record their responses on the board or charts.
