II. Course Title: Life, Works and Writings of Rizal
III. Course Description:
As mandated by Republic Act 1425, this course covers the life and works
of the country’s national hero, Jose Rizal. Among the topics covered are Rizal’s
biography and his writings, particularly the novels Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo some of his essays, and various correspondence.
IV. Course Prerequisite: None
V. Credit: 3 units
VI. Number of Contact Hours per week: 3 Hours
VII. Objectives of the Course:

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:


1. Knowledge
a. Interweave the highlights of Rizal’s life, works and teachings into the
origin and development of Filipino national consciousness;
b. Analyze Rizal’s life intellectual and aesthetic humanism giving emphasis
on Rizal’s courageous criticism of Philippine life to arouse the latent to
arouse potential of the Filipino people
c. Discover and appreciate the profound beauty of Rizal’s message to his
people;
d. Acquire proper direction and search for a better national life; and
e. Identify the weaknesses and defects of the Filipino character, the social
problems, and the reforms of Rizal’s advocacy.

2. Values
a. Recognize the importance of Rizal as one of the national heroes of our
country.

3. Skills
a. Perform a roleplay about Rizal’s El Filibusterismo and Noli Me
Tangere;
b. Organize two sets of debate pertaining to the known issues about
Rizal.
