NCBTS was created to fulfill DepEd's Vision while PPST is
designed to address and rethink the contents of NCBTS and
because of changes brought about by various national and
global frameworks such as the K to 12 Reform and ASEAN
Integration, as well as globalization and the changing character
of the 21st century learners.
NCBTS was created before the institutionalization of the K-12
program while PPST is the otherwise. Looking at the paradigm
shift, NCBTS has only 4 strands while PPST has 5. PPST was
crafted with the Content Knowledge and Pedagogy as its first
domain to emphasize that it is important that the teachers
know the content and know how to teach it while NCBTS starts
with Social Regard for Learning which focuses on the social
environment in learning process.
Does Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST)
replace NCBTS?
Yes. This happens upon the signing into policy of DepEd Order
No. 42, S. 2017 on the National Adoption and Implementation
of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers which
ammended the DepEd Order No. 32, S. 2009.
