It is a pleasure to inform you, [insert surname (in capitals) and first name, date of birth,
male/female and email address], that I am willing to act as your supervisor for your intended PhD
programme at Utrecht University in the field of [insert name PhD research programme]. Should you
be selected by CSC and thus be awarded a 4-year scholarship of € 1200 per month you will not be
charged any tuition-, bench-, or research fees during your PhD in Utrecht. The PhD programme in
Utrecht will start on [insert start date programme]. At present you are a [MA/PhD student /
employee] at [name university or employer] and you will apply to CSC for a CSC-UU PhD
Programme scholarship before the deadline of March 20 to April 5, 2017.
For selected 2017 CSC-UU PhD Programme candidates the Doctoral Degree Regulations of Utrecht
University apply. The first year of the programme will be a probation year. If you successfully
complete the first year, you may continue toward a PhD degree. Usually it takes 4 years at Utrecht
University to obtain a PhD degree. Do note that living expenses in the Netherlands are high and that
the CSC scholarship will not cover any additional costs should you need more than 4 years to
complete your PhD in Utrecht.
This letter is also a confirmation that you have met any formal (language) requirements that apply
to this PhD programme. Kindly note that this acceptance is subject to confirmation of a scholarship
funding through the China Scholarship Council.
Yours sincerely,
