Welcome to Bhalani!

Bhalani is a high performance, portable and versatile eBook Reader application that enables you to read
eBooks anytime and anywhere. Beyond reading of simple text, Bhalani lets you take your reading
experience further and add notes, highlight and search for text. Bhalani also provides easy navigation
features and customizing options to redefine your reading experience to your liking.

To help you get started and get the most out of Bhalani, we have provided information about how to
use it here.

USING THE APPLICATION

Bhalani works primarily in two modes, Library view and Reading view (explained in the next sections).

When the application is launched first time, you are first shown the screen in Library view.

LIBRARY VIEW

The Library view displays an overview of the collection of items.

READING VIEW
The Reading view provides a full screen reading view of a single eBook’s content. To read a book, select
the book in Library view. The toolbar appears across the top of your screen giving easy access to
commonly used actions.

You can switch from Reading view to Library view by selecting .

CONNECTING TO BHALANI ONLINE STORE TO DOWNLOAD E-BOOKS

You need to connect to Bhalani store online to download your purchased books from the Bookshelf.

To login online to your Bhalani account, select in Library view. You will be prompted to enter User
name and password (shown below).

After entering, select to log in or to cancel action. On successful login, a message

indicating status is shown and the login icon appears green .

To logout, click on this icon.

To proceed with download, click on . You will be shown your purchased books in the bookshelf.

Select the book to download. Yow will be shown the download initiation followed by download progress
screen.

The book is added to your library in Bhalani app after successful download. Select to return to
library mode and view the newly added book.

NAVIGATING WITHIN A BOOK IN READER VIEW

Bhalani provides easy and convenient ways for navigating through the book.

 To move forward one page, swipe your finger from right to left.
 To move to previous page, swipe your finger from left to right.

The page slider bar at the bottom allows you to easily scroll through pages by moving the slider handle.

Page slider

Bhalani also supports a Table of Contents (TOC) to help readers navigate their way around the book.

Select from the toolbar to view table of contents. You can go directly to any of the listed chapters
by tapping it.

SELECTING TEXT

Touch and position your finger near the

location of the text to be selected. As you
release your finger, blue markers appear at the
beginning and end of selected content

Drag the blue selection start and end point

markers to specify the range of text selection by
sliding your fingers.

HIGHLIGHTS AND ANNOTATIONS

Highlights and annotations play a key role in active reading. You may need to highlight passages in books
in order to refer back to key phrases easily. You may also like to add brief comments and queries as
annotations while reading.

Create Highlights

To invoke the Highlight & Annotation menu, select text (previous section). Select option.

Choose color.

The highlight gets added in the selected color.

View Highlights

To view all the added highlights, select option.

The list of highlights added are shown.

You can navigate to the page containing any highlighted item by selecting that highlight item from
Highlights panel.

Remove Highlights
To delete any highlighted item, long-press on highlighted item in Highlights panel.

Search within Highlights

When you tap in the blank black line, the onscreen keyboard gets displayed. You can use it to enter the
search term. Tap to perform the search after entering search criteria.

The search result is displayed. You can navigate to any search item by selecting it. To navigate within
search results (when it exceeds display view), you can scroll to move in forward and reverse directions.

To clear the search text box, use in onscreen keyboard.

To remove Highlights panel from view, tap anywhere in the reader pane.

Add annotation
To add annotation, select from context menu after selecting text. The notes panel is displayed.

When you tap within the note pane, the onscreen keyboard gets displayed. You can use it to enter the
annotation note.

Tap anywhere in the reading pane after you are done with entering the note. The annotation is saved.

View annotation

To view list of annotations, select from context menu. The list of annotations are displayed.

You can navigate to the page containing annotation note by selecting the annotation item from
Annotations panel.

Remove annotation
To delete any annotation item, long-press on the item in Annotation panel.

Search within annotation

When you tap within the search text box, the onscreen keyboard gets displayed. You can use it to enter
the search term to search within the list of annotation notes. The search results are displayed. You can
navigate to any search item by selecting it. To navigate within search results (when it exceeds display
view), you can scroll to move in forward and reverse directions.

SEARCHING WITHIN A BOOK

The search tool present in Bhalani application at the top right corner helps you to search effectively
through eBooks for a particular word, phrase, or character string. It lets you find every instance of a
word or phrase. When you tap within the search panel, the onscreen keyboard gets displayed. You can
use it to enter the search term to search within the book.

All instances of the search term will be populated as a scrollable list in the search panel with its
surrounding context besides being highlighted in the displayed page content.

ZOOM IN / ZOOM OUT

The Zoom in/Zoom out options allow ways to enhance readability. If you wish to see the reading content
in larger size, you can zoom temporarily on the book page. It is quite straightforward. To zoom in,
spread two fingers apart; to zoom out, pinch two fingers together.
