1 Introduction
This guide provides a quick overview on how to install and set up QualityAssurer 805 or
813.

2 Items Included
Your unit is shipped with the following items:
 QA-805/QA-813 software and documentation DVD
Note: The software is factory pre-installed. Based on your purchase, you might
have W2CM modules that are also pre-installed with your unit.
 QA-805/QA-813 chassis – switch card (also known as SC v2), system
controller (processor v2), hard drive, and a rack-mount kit.
 EAST blades are known as PEv1 modules, PEv2 modules, and PEv2s
modules.
Note: These modules are factory pre-installed. Along with these modules, you
might have the following:
o Ethernet AMC
o NPU AMC
o SS7/FR AMC
 RJ45 serial cable and adapter for connecting to the switch card or to the East
blades.
 Country specific AC power cords – 3.
 For the processor v1:
o Display port to DVI cable
o Mini-USB to Female USB
 Pelican carrying case

3 Additional Requirements for QA-813


Additional requirements for QA-813 are as follows:
 Power entry modules (PEM): One PEM will be provided with the chassis.
 Power Lugs: Use two-hole lugs to connect external power supply to the shelf.
Rubber boots are supplied with the shelf to cover the power lugs
 Power cabling: EXFO recommends solid core or stranded cable type. Use
AWG no. 6 (13mm2 cable).

 AC/DC power rectifier: Use an AC/DC power rectifier to operate QA-813. The
power rectifier is not shipped with QA-813. The power input to chassis has
below ratings supported:
o Input Nominal current 105A@48VDC and 84A@60VDC
o Input Nominal voltage -48/-60 VDC
o Input Voltage operating range -36-72VDC
o DC input range from 40,5VAC to 72VDC
o Fuse status monitoring by IPMC
o LED indication for fuse and FRU status
o DC-power line-input from Chassis rear side
o DC-input = 48VDC-60VDC / 5,6KWatts

4 Default Settings
 IP address of the QualityAssurer system: 192.168.1.1.
 User name and password (both for exfo user and root user): exfo
 Passwords for the VNC sessions:
o QA-800 user VNC session (<IP>:1) to connect to QA-800 Application
Manager screen (as exfo user): qauser
o East root user VNC session (<IP>:N) to connect to the EAST blades
PEv1/PEv2/PEv2s : qaroot, Where:
N = 46 + (slot number x 4).
Example: For EAST client ceast100s3 (ceast<chassis ID>s<slot
number>)
 N = 46 + (3 x 4)
 N = 58
o VNC login for blade is <IP>:58
For QA-805 unit, N = 50, 54, 58, 62 and 66 for EAST blade slots 1
through 5, respectively
For QA-813 unit, N = 50, 54, 58, 62, 66, 70, 74, 78, 82, 86, 90, 94, 98
for EAST blade slots 1 through 13, respectively

5 QualityAssurer Installation
Proper operation of the QualityAssurer system requires that the power cords and all
network interface connections are securely connected to the unit. EXFO recommends
the following connection sequence:

a. Install the system in a rack using the supplied rack-mount kit.
b. For proper air flow, ensure that the side vents are not obstructed.
c. Connect all the three power cords and power-on the QualityAssurer unit.
Note: Connect each power cord to a separate power circuit capable of
supplying 15 amps. Check nameplate ratings to ensure there is no overloading
of supply circuits that could have an effect on over current protection and
supply wiring. Make sure all the three power supplies are powered-on.
d. For the QA-813 units, setup the AC/DC power rectifier as follows:
a. Connect the positive terminal of the power rectifier to the positive
power port on the backplane of the chassis using lugs.
b. Connect the negative terminal of the power rectifier to the negative
power port on the backplane of the chassis using lugs.
Note: Ensure that you maintain proper insulation on the power
terminals.
e. Connect the Ethernet cable to SCv2 Ethernet port (number 2 in diagram). This
will provide network connectivity to SCv2. QA chassis can be accessed via
VNC client from a workstation.

1. SCv2 Console Port – Add Console cable to view System Controller’s logs.
2. SCv2 Ethernet Port – Connect your LAN Connection to this Ethernet Port
3. Micro USB Port – Use port to connect USB device here as per requirement
4. AMC Latch – This is SCv2 Processor AMC latch
5. ATCA Switch MGNT – This is ATCA Switch Management Port
6. ATCA Switch Console Port – This Switch console port used to check switch
logs
7. ATCA Latch – ATCA Switch handle latch used to install hardware to the
chassis

Note – SCv2 doesn’t has VGA port, instead it has console port.

f. Ensure all hot-swap switch/levers are properly closed.

6 QualityAssurer Network Settings
Update QA chassis network as per your local network range.
A. Change QA IP using VNC connection: (preferred)
a. Connect the QualityAssurer Ethernet port to your computer. (use crossover
cable)
b. Change the IP address of the computer to 192.168.1.2.
c. Power on the QA-805/QA-813 unit.
d. Run VNC Viewer on the computer. Connect to the QualityAssurer unit by
entering the default IP address followed by ‘:1’ (i.e. 192.168.1.1:1).
Note: Ensure that VNC Viewer is ensured on your computer before executing
this step.
e. Enter the default password – qauser.
After a sequence of self-test and initialization, the UI loads.
f. From the toolbar in the Application Manager, click System  System Setup 
Communication Setup. Communication window appears.
g. To access the configuration parameter, enter the root password “exfo”, and
click OK. The Network Configuration window appears.

h. Select eth2 under the devices, and then click Edit. Based on thenetwork
requirements, enter the communication parameters such as IP Address of the
chassis, Subnet mask, and Default gateway address.

i. Select Host and edit the IP address for your QualityAssurer. Enter the IP
address mentioned in step 4.

j. If you need to setup DNS servers, configure them by editing the settings
under the DNS tab.

k. The clock on the processor v1 does not have battery backup, so you need to
set up time and date. You can set it up either manually (after each power cycle)
or from an NTP server. From the Application Manager toolbar, click System
 System Setup  Date and Time Setup to set the date, time, and time
zone.
This setup requires administrator rights. Enter the root password as exfo and
click OK to go to the Date/Time Properties dialog.
Note: Do not setup the NTP server in this window. Configure it through
Chassis Configuration in the System menu of Application Manager.
l. Reboot the QA-805/QA-813 unit through the Application Manager toolbar. Click
System  Reboot.
m. Remove SCv2 and your system connections made using the crossover cable.
Connect your computer with your local area network.
n. You can reconnect to the QA system once SCv2 booted up.
o. From the remote workstation, run the VNC viewer, enter the IP address of the
QA-805/QA-813 unit assigned in step 3 followed by ‘:1’ (e.g. 172.31.33.17:1),
and enter qauser as the password.

Note: After connecting to SCVNC:1, you can access the user guides from
Application Manager Help User Guides.

B. Change QA IP using Console connection: (use when option A is not


possible)
a. Before powering-on, connect a console cable to SCv2, which must be added to
your console host machine. You can use minicom, Kermit, hyperterminal like
tools to get SCv2 console logs.
b. System connection baud rate is 115200.
c. Logon to the system a root. (Password is exfo)
d. Change QA network settings as applicable to your local network.
I. IP change target file is /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth2. Sample
is give below.
TYPE=Ethernet
DEVICE=eth2
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=10.31.33.17
GATEWAY=10.31.0.21
NETMASK=255.255.0.0
ONBOOT=yes
II. DNS change target file is /etc/resolv.conf. Example entry is given
below.
search exfo.com
nameserver 10.31.0.24
nameserver 10.31.0.23
III. Host change target file is /etc/hosts.
# Do not remove the following line, or various
programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
10.31.33.17 qa-805 qa-805.exfo.com
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

e. Restart the unit. Connect the front LAN port to your local network. QA system
VNC will be available when it is started from your workstation.

7 Invoking EAST
To invoke EAST on the blade, follow these steps (here ceast100s2 is used as an
example of the blade):

a. Connect to ceast100s3 via VNC client. (<IP>:58)


b. Open a terminal at targeted remote host
c. Change directory to default EAST installation directory
/east/seast1/vA.B/loadservers/ceast100s3
(where vA.B is your EAST Core version)
d. To invoke the EAST application, run the command start.sh.
Note: To review package installation and related documents, go to
EAST desktop Admin  About  Info  Package Info  <Package>
Documents.

8 Shutting-down Quality Assurer Unit


To safely turn off the unit, stop all the test applications, save results to prevent
measurement loss, and do one of the following:

A. Quality Assurer Shutdown from Application Manager. (preferred)

a. Log on to the Quality Assurer VNC instance 1.


b. Go to Application Manager  System  Shutdown

B. Quality Assurer Shutdown from Application Manager. (use when option A


is not possible)

a. To turn off the system controller - processor SCv2, pull out its HotSwap switch
(Handle Latch) to its first click position. Wait until the blue HotSwap LED stops
flashing and turns solid blue to indicate that the system controller has safely
turned off.
Note: See the image under Quality Assurer Installation Steps above.
To turn off the hard drive, pull out its HotSwap switch. Wait until the blue
HotSwap LED stops flashing and turns solid blue to indicate that the Hard Drive
has shut down safely.

b. Release the right extractor, which is the HotSwap switch of the Switch module,
and wait until the blue HotSwap LED stops flashing.
Power-down all the active power supplies.

9 Precautions
Do not move the hardware when the power is on. It might cause serious harm to the
hardware like crashing the hard disk drive. Ensure the power is turned off before
moving the hardware.
