An Exploratory study on the Quality of Working Life of cancer survivors: the interrelation between
work and health factors
Philippines have an infamous reputation when it comes to the stability of our employment rate; or, for lack
of better words, underemployment. It attacks on anyone, the least suspecting victim; and just like that,
cancer strikes the same way. It’s not everyday that a person survives such disease and its not everyday that
they are immediately able to rehabilitate themselves physically and mentally to enable themselves to go
back to the working force. Cancer remains a national health priority in the country with significant
implications for individuals, families, communities, and the health system.
Cancer is the third leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the country after diseases of the heart and
the vascular system (Philippine Health Statistics 2009).
