COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

SCHOOL : Jose Rizal Memorial State University GRADE LEVEL :7

TEACHER : Mr. James Christian E. Dacanay LEARNING AREA : Mathematics
DATE & TIME : January 28, 2020 @ 4:00 – 5:00 QUARTER : 3rd Quarter

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards
The learner is able to demonstrate understanding of key concepts of geometry of shapes and
sizes, and geometric relationships.

B. Performance Standards
The learner is able to create models of plane figures and formulate and solve accurately authentic
problems involving sides and angles of a polygon.

C. Learning Competency
Illustrates a circle and the terms related to it: radius, diameter chord, center, arc, chord, central
angle, and inscribed angle. (M7GE-IIIg-1)

D. Specific Objectives
At the end of the discussion, the students should be able to:
1. define what is a circle,
2. name the different parts of a circle given an illustration; and
3. identify the parts of a circle with speed and accuracy.

II. CONTENT
Geometry

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide Pages - 201 – 206
2. Learners’ Materials Pages - 233 – 236
3. Additional Materials from LR Portal - None

B. Other Learning Resources - Next Generation Math 7 (236–240)

IV. PROCEDURES

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Prayer
May I request everyone to please stand and lead the
prayer _______. (Students do as they told)
2. Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning sir
How are you today? We are fine sir
It’s good to hear that class
3. Checking of Attendance
Is every one present? No sir/ yes sir
Please write the names of those who are absent. Yes sir
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY
4. Class Rules
Okay class before anything else, first we should set some rules,
are we clear? Listen carefully sir
Okay, so what should you do when somebody is talking in front? (Students answer may vary)
What if you want to answer or you have questions? Raise our hands sir
Okay so I hope that these rules will be followed during Yes sir!
discussion.

B. Establishing Purpose for the

Lesson/Motivation
Draw a point somewhere in the middle of a sheet of paper or in
your notebook. Now using a ruler, mark 20 other points that are 5 cm
from the first point. And compare your work with your seatmates. While
you are doing that I also want you to observe the following pictures and
tell me what you have observed.
The students will do what they are
told to.

C. Presentation
Based on what you have done earlier what shape do you
recognize? Circle sir.
What can you say about those pictures? Some of the pictures are food sir.
What about the shape? Its shape is a circle sir.
So can you guess now what our topic for this morning? Our topic for this morning sir is
That’s right our topic for this morning is about circles. about circle.

D. Discussion
Now let us define a circle.
 A circle is a set of all points on a plane that are the same
distance from a fixed point called the center.
 A radius is a lone segment joining any point on the circle to the
center of the circle. It measures one half of the diameter.
 Chord is a segment whose endpoints are any two points on the The students will listen to the
circle. discussion.
 A diameter is a chord which passes through the center of a Or they will take some important
circle. It is twice the length of a radius. notes.

 Central angle is an angle whose vertex is the center of the

circle.
STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

 Arc is a part or a portion of a circle.

 Semicircle is a half of a circle.
 Minor arc is less than half of a circle.
 Major arc is greater than half of a circle.
Further discussion.

Example. Using the circle figure above.

1. The center of the circle is point A.
2. The radii are 𝐴𝐶,𝐴𝐷 and𝐴𝐵
3. The chords are 𝐺𝐻, 𝐵𝐶 and 𝐸𝐹
4. The diameter of a circle is 𝐵𝐶
5. The central angles are∠𝐶𝐴𝐷,∠𝐵𝐴𝐷 and∠𝐵𝐴𝐶.
6. Half circle: arc CB
Minor arc: arc CD and BD
Major arc: arc BD
E. Developing Mastery
I will draw a random circle and let us see if you can identify the
following parts of the circle.
(The students will do what they are
(Draw a random circle and let the students identify the different
told.)
point or parts of the circle.)

F. Analysis
Circle is a set of all points on a
Okay class so what is a circle again?
plane that are the same distance
from a fixed point called the center
What do you call a line segment from any point of a circle to the
Radius
center?
A radius is only half of a diameter
What is the difference between a radius and a diameter?
while a diameter is composed of
two radius.
Is it true that a radius is a half diameter?
Yes sir.

What are the difference between a minor and a major arc?

A minor arc is less than a
semicircle while a major arc is
greater than a semicircle.
That’s right.
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY
G. Application
Now let us have a 5 item quiz. Write it on a 1⁄8 sheet of paper.
Write your surname if your answer is true and write your section
if your answer is false. Expected Answer

1. Two radii always have the same length. 1. True

2. A diameter is one – half of a length of a radius. 2. False

3. A diameter is a longest chord of a circle. 3. True

4. All diameters are chords. 4. True

5. A radius is not a chord. 5. False

6. Semicircle is half of a circle. 6. True

7. All radii of a circle are congruent. 7. True

8. A minor arc is larger than a semicircle. 8. False

9. Major arc is greater than a semicircle. 9. True

10. Arc is not a part of a circle. 10. False
