According to the researchers in Nature Geoscience, the computer simulations show that

movement of broken-up remnant of the ancient Farallon Plate could be stirring the mantle

in a way that fuels Yellowstone. As a result, scientists have long suspected that a deep

plume of magma originating from the core-mantle boundary, similar to the one that fuels

Hawaii’s volcanoes, is the source of Yellow stone’s fury.

At least 700 people have been injured after an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 hit

western Iran near its border with Iraq, according to state television.

The earthquake on Sunday night was felt in at least seven provinces of Iran, but most

strongly in Kermanshah where last year more than 600 people were killed in an

A new study suggests that a previously unknown rocky layer may be

lurking about 930 miles beneath our feet — and evidence suggests that

it’s significantly stiffer than similar layers, which could help explain

earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

The new finding may help explain why many slabs of rock that move and

shift beneath Earth’s surface stall or temporarily get stuck at around 930

miles underground — a phenomenon thought to cause earthquakes and

volcanic eruptions, The Salt Lake Tribune reported. This Cezane
