Cambridge programmes and qualifications set the global standard for international education.
They are created by subject experts, rooted in academic rigor and reflect the latest educational
research.
The four stages of the Cambridge Pathway lead seamlessly from primary through secondary
and pre-university years. Schools can shape the curriculum around how they want students to
learn.
More than 10,000 schools are part of the Cambridge learning community. The organization
operates in 160 countries across 9 regions: North America, Latin America, UK & Europe, Sub-
Saharan Africa, Middle East & North Africa, South Asia, East Asia and Southeast Asia & Pacific.
A primary school is a school for children from about five to eleven years old, in which they
receive primary or elementary education. It can refer to both the physical structure and the
organization. Typically it comes after preschool, and before secondary school. The International
Standard Classification of Education considers primary education as a single phase where
programmes are typically designed to provide fundamental skills in reading, writing and
mathematics and to establish a solid foundation.
Design Problem
You are required to design a Pre Primary and Primary to lower secondary school with IGCSC
standards. Consider the flow chart below.
The chart above indicates the students will be offered English, Mathematics, Science and ICT as
core subjects. Sports, choice of language, visual art, music and social studies are some of the
additional subjects the students will get to choose from.
Design consideration
Design Drivers
1. The resource area or the staff base area is located to provide a focus for the
department and to be easily accessed by the whole school.
2. Class rooms should be able to cater to a range of individual and group based
activities.
3. The Cambridge syllabus allows room for schools to develop their own teaching
philosophies and teaching methodologies, you as the designer may take advantage of this and
incorporate a philosophy within the design concept. These may include:
Environmental sensitivity
Sensitivity students to nature
Sustainability concepts (Food garden, Student run food kitchen, Animal farm,
community help etc) (https://sustainabilityinschools.edu.au/what-is-efs)
