REFLECTION PAPER

There are lots of questions in our lives, frustrations in our mind, doubts in our self-
confidence, hesitations in our actions, and what ifs in our own experience, but in order to
overcome it, I must say that one must look on our History to apprehend, assess and consult
yourself through the different events happened before. As suggested, the movie Noli Me
Tangere is a good instrument in changing our insights and and implant positivity and pessimism.
Noli Me Tangere is a (relative) representation of what happened in the Spanish Colonization
where Filipinos were being discriminated, belittled, degraded and abused. The experiences of
our own Filipinos, the anomalies and wrongdoings of Spaniards were being exposed in the
movie. The nightmare that anyone would not dare to go back to.

The movie shows Jose Rizal's ( which was played in the character of Crisostomo Ibarra )
extraordinary experiences both downfalls and success but all over it, is the determination to
retrieve our independence. With the events took place during this period provides us lot of
lessons, realizations and encouragements. One could reflect with his/her life by looking at the
true essence of our history. Though the events were quite cruel and portrayed different
inhumane acts but beside these, there are still something behind it that everyone could not see.

If there is something I could not forget in the movie Noli Me Tangere, that would be the part
where Sisa lost her right thinking after losing her children. This part was very heart-breaking
knowing that Sisa could not do something to save her children. It was able to caught my
sympathy as it portrayed the unconditional and sacrificial love of mothers. I realized how lucky I
am to have my mother with me whom I was still able to talked to, to sleep and eat together, and
especially to share love and memories with her. Witnessing Sisa's struggles indeed an
awakening scene for every children to give importance of their parents and love them as much
as you can while they're here. Let's not wait for something that might happen before we realize
everything.
I mentioned frustrations and doubts above, which I think is very dominant in all the youth
especially in stabilizing career paths. As one of those, I must say that, self-doubt is really a
competitive opponent, as we say the hardest battle in our life is the battle between your heart
and your mind. But upon watching the movie, I was somehow moved and touched, enlightened
and uplifted as it portrayed different situations that one could learn for. Jose Rizal was very
admirable and praiseworthy, and his confident was overloaded. He does not think of failure but
instead he focused on his goal. Even though there are 99.9% of losing his life but still he stick on
1% possibility that he will succeed. Jose Rizal's attitude which he had portrayed in the movie
was disciplined and I think it could be a good instrument in surpassing all life hindrances in our
path. In the movie, Crisostomo Ibarra suffered different downfalls and challenges but he was
still able to manage his life. He continued without hesitation and doubt, only focusing on his
goal.

The movie does not only gives us lessons and values for ourselves, but also implanting us the
essence of helping others, and doing something for the benefit of others. Jose Rizal was known
to be a good-hearted person, he helped others in one way or another without expecting
something in return. With this, Filipinos could adopt this and be inspired to help other people
too, and in return, our country could have harmony and peace.

Noli Me Tangere is a good movie that could change the mind of every Filipinos, not only for the
goodness of our country but also for ourselves. If only people would internalize the message
and understand what it wants us to attain, we could achieve the life that we wanted.
