Which are the best air conditioners available in India? 

Links Hello Friends,

Construction I have purchased an Inverter AC in March 2018. I have done an extensive

Restaurants research to conclude on the Brands (including online & offline visit to Service

Tourism
Centres). I will not discuss about the Features of individual Brands, but the
Overall review in generic for Premium Brands of AC's.

I am writing about the Best Brands and not the Best Models of AC's as the
Question doesn't specify so.

Please note that BEE ( Bureau of Energy Efficiency) has revised the Star Ratings
of all Fixed Speed AC's from 1st January 2018, in India. It is basically due to the
change in the ISEER (Indian Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) value, which has
become more stringent in 2018.

As a result, a Fixed Speed AC whose rating was 5 Star in 2017 will fall into the 3
Star category, 4 Star in 2017 will fall into 2 Star category and so on for 2018. Now
for Inverter AC's, BEE has made it mandatory to mention the Star Ratings for all
models of AC's from 1st January 2018. Till 31st December 2017, it was Voluntary
for Inverter AC's to mention the Star Ratings.

1. O General - Costliest as compared to the same features offered by other

brands. But it's Quality is Premium & a Long Lasting product. Performs
very Well even at extreme Ambient temp.

2. Mitsubishi Heavy duty - Cost wise cheaper than O General. Quality &
Durability is really Good. It makes very Low noise during operation.

3. Mitsubishi Electric - Quality is lower than Mitsubishi Heavy duty. But,

without comparing with others, it's a very Nice product. Performance is
obviously better than below described brands.

4. Daikin - Cheaper when compared to above brands. But, the Quality is

Superb. The noise level during operation for both Indoor & Outdoor
units are really Low.

5. Hitachi - Price is somewhat similar to Daikin. Product Quality is Very

Good. This brand has few Patented features depending on Models (like
Auto Cleaning for air Filters).

6. Carrier - Price is Cheaper than above brands with same features, but
Product Quality is Awesome. It is the pioneer in AC system. This is a
Good choice as you get Great features at a competitive price.

7. Blue Star - Cheaper when compared to above brands. It's the only
Indian make brand, with Optimum Quality. AC operation is Silent for
sure.

8. All Other Brands you have heard of, like Voltas, IFB, Panasonic, Godrej,
Samsung, Onida, LG …etc - These brands use Assembled Components of
Lower Quality (as compared to Premium Brands) and Hence, do not fall
into the Premium Quality category.

Now, i will put down some of the Basic important parameters that will guide in
narrowing down your search for a particular AC Brand.

5/8/2018 Home - Quora
1. Type of AC - Window / Split / Cassette / Tower (floor standing).

2. Compressor Motor technology - Fixed Speed / Inverter.

3. BEE rating - 5 Star / 4 Star / 3 Star.

4. Type of Condenser Coil used - 100 % Copper (the Best) / Aluminium

Alloy / Aluminium (the Worst).

5. Refrigerant used - R32 (Best choice and going to be adopted by most

Brands in near future) / R410A / R290 / R600A / R22 (to be Phased Out
and the Worst choice).

6. AC cooling upto what Ambient temp - 50°C / 52°C / 54°C.

7. Air Filter - PM2.5 / Anti Bacterial / None.

8. Installation Charges - Free / Chargeable.

Note - Brands with R410A refrigerant are likely to migrate to R32 in the coming
years owing to the (i) High Cost (ii) Higher Global Warming potential & (iii)
Practical problems faced during refilling (incase of a Refrigerant Leakage in AC) -
by the former.

Some more General points to Consider and can be helpful ; (Not related to the
Question though !!)

1. The Performance of an AC purely depends on the Quality of material

that the Brand has used. Remember that the 5 Star rated AC not only
uses Less Power, but each and every Component in it, is of Better
Quality - so that, their Overall Efficiency will be High, thereby making a
Reduction in Power Consumption. If there is any defect in the
Component itself (for any Brand of AC), then it's purely Luck and that's
Good when it is within Warranty period. Otherwise Bad Luck.

2. The presence of a particular Brand Service Centre - Do Not go for a

Brand whose Service Centre is not available near to your Location. You
will loose patience in case of any problem.

3. AC installation is a Skilled job. Always go for the guys from the Brand
Service Centre. Atleast you will get an option to Complaint to the
Brand's Call Centre, incase of any issue. At some places it is provided by
the Retailer's Local guy - Not at all a good option. AC Mounting and
Power Connection is not a big deal. But the Skill lies in the Flaring job
for Refrigerant Tube, Perfect connection of Tubes without any Leakage,
proper Slanting angle for Drain Hose …etc and not the least, AC
Mounting should have an Aesthetic appeal.

4. Some variant of AC's do not come with free length of Refrigerant Copper
Tubes, within the Carton Packing i.e it is to be bought extra - Do check
that.

5. Some variant of AC's also require an additional length of Power Cable

(excluding the Cable that comes within the Carton Packing) - Do also
check.

6. Power Fluctuations create problem for AC's. So, Voltage Stabilizers come
into picture. They have a Transformer inside, which causes some
amount of Power Loss and adds to the Energy consumed by an AC.
Hence, go for a Good Brand (like V Guard …etc) that uses high quality
transformer Core material. Again, Select on which Voltage Band you will
go for i.e Input Voltage range from 90v / 110v / 130v etc (depending on
the Lower Voltages that dips during the peak Summer in your locality).

7. Lastly, Do Not get carried away by the Technical Jargons, these are
purely Marketing gimmicks. The name of one Feature for a particular
Brand may have a different name for another Brand !!
