any selection decisions were made by the institution/s to which you have applied. Therefore, we advise
that you monitor the progress of your application on our website www.cao.ac.za by selecting “My
Application”. Alternatively, see section 5 of the 2020 entry Handbook for further information on what
happens next. You can also check the status of your application 24/7 by calling our Call Centre on
Sharecall number 0860 860 226 or dial +27 31 268 4444 if from outside South Africa.
Below is the information that we have for you on our system. Please correct any errors and fill in all
gaps. Let us know immediately if any of this information is incorrect and needs to be changed. Indicate
the corrections, changes and/or additions on this letter and send to us by email or fax which must
include your CAO or ID Number. Our email and fax details are indicated in the last paragraph of this
letter. If within two weeks from the date of this letter, you fail to update or correct the information
recorded on this document, the information as it appears on this letter will be assumed to be correct.
If you are writing the NSC (National Senior Certificate) examination or any NSC subject/s this
year (2019), please send us a copy of your NSC Admission Letter/Personalised Timetable that
contains your ID Number, Examination Number as well as your personal details. This
document will be issued to you by your school at about September/October before
you write your final examination. Once received, immediately upload on our website:
www.cao.ac.za and click on icon for “Upload Documents”.
If there are any documents still outstanding, submit certified copies by uploading online at
www.cao.ac.za Online documents are immediately indexed to your profile. You may also email
to documentscao@cao.ac.za but it may take up to 4 weeks to be indexed to your profile. This
must be done as soon as you receive the outstanding document. If you email or post your
document/s you must WRITE YOUR CAO Number and ID NUMBER on EACH DOCUMENT YOU
SUBMIT.
You can have a maximum of six active choices. If you have applied for a programme choice not offered
for the entry year/intake you have specified in your application, we will try to process this programme
choice for the next available entry year/intake (if offered) at no cost to you. It is your responsibility to
ensure that your programme choice name/s and codes are correct. Choices are processed using the
programme code.
If you have applied for a programme which has been or may be discontinued, you have the option of
only changing this programme at no cost by going online to www.cao.ac.za and clicking on “Change of
Mind” and following the instructions or sending an email to comscao@cao.ac.za. If you wish to change
other choices, see below for the process of submitting a Change of Mind.
The CAO only accepts ONE APPLICATION for a specific entry year and intake. If more than one
application is received, the first fully processed application with payment will be made available to the
institutions and any subsequent applications will not be considered. You may, however, make changes
to your original application by submitting a Change of Mind/Extending your Application Request
form, see details after the programme choices table.
The programme choices you have applied for are listed below.
2.1. Add, for whatever reason, you want to change your programme choices or change the ranking
of your existing peogramme choices you must go to www.cao.ac.za and click on the icon
“Change of Mind” and follow the instructions. As soon as you click submit and pay your latest
choices will be available to the institutions. If you complete and submit a hard-copy “Change of
Mind Request Form” and after you’ve paid the COM fee it takes up to 4 weeks after we receive
it to be processed and made available to the institutions.

Important: Your “Change of Mind” (COM) is processed immediately if your request is done online. To request a “Change of
Mind” online you must go to www.cao.ac.za and click on the icon “Change of Mind” and follow the instructions. As soon as you
click submit and pay your latest choices will be available to the institutions.
If you complete and submit a hard-copy “Change of Mind Request Form” and after you’ve paid the COM fee it takes up to 4

1. To request a change of mind using the Change of Mind/Extending your Application Request Form
When you want to change a previously submitted programme choice or when you want to change the rank order of your
choices, complete and submit your fully paid Change of Mind/Extending your Application Request form and submit to
comscao@cao.ac.za or post to Central Applications Office, Private Bag X06, Dalbridge, 4014 or hand deliver to our office
Gate 11, Mary Thiphe Street, Cato Manor, Durban.
a) You may submit more than one Change of Mind/Extending your Application Request form with any number of
changes on it. Each form that you submit will cost R135, irrespective of the number of changes on the form.
2. If you wish to extend your application to the next available entry year/intake using the Change of Mind/Extending your
Application Request Form.
a) If , for some reason, you do not register to study the year for which you have applied, you can complete a Change of
Mind/Extending your Application Request Form, which allows you to extend your application to the next entry year.
If you do this before the end of March you DO NOT have to complete a new application. You pay the COM fee and
not the Application Fee, which is much higher.
3. How much does it cost?
a) A fee of R135 is charged for each Change of Mind/Extending your Application Request form submission or a request
to extend your application.
b) No request will be processed until payment is received in full.
