To the respected exporters of Australian and Canadian pulses,

Local market in Pakistan has crashed for all pulses products including the Australian Desi Chickpeas and
Australian and Canadian lentils. Arrival at the Karachi port has been very strong since the start oiJanuary,
which has caused accumulation of about 3000 containers, which have not been ileared by the buyers. In
order to revive the market, we need to slow down the cargo arrival at our port, which wili release the
existing congestion of about 3000 containers.
For cargo on voyage, we require delay at the transshipment ports for as long as possible preferably 30 days
or more. This will allow the buyers to clear the cargo at the port.
The importers also require 28 days detention free time at destination from the shipping line. Currently due to
new plant protection rules, the cargo clearing time has substantially reduced leading 6 high detention and
demmurage costs, which the buyers are bearing on top of the market loss.
Shipments for March and April should be washed out to reduce the load on the buyers. If the cargo cannot
be washed out, it should be rolled into May. This would allow the market to stabilize when the aiival
pressure reduces. We will get approval from the importer for the roll over and wash outs on a
case-by-case
basis.
If strict action is not taken to revive the Pakistan's pulses market, we might see major defaults in the market
as currently the market is coming downfast. It is time to support the importers by iushing the shipments
and slowing down the cargo arrival, as they supported the exporters during the logistics pioblems from
Australia in Oct Nov 2016 by allowing shipment extension.

Thank you,
From Pakistan Pulses Indentors Association
