LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

I. Objectives
At the end of this lesson, the learners are expected to:
a. Define latitude and longitude;
b. Identify the Equator and Prime meridian; and
c. Map point coordinates of latitude and longitude.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Latitude and Longitude
Time Allotment: 5 hours
References: SCIENCE 7 (Learner’s Material) page 280-284
Instructional Materials: Map with grids, chalk, laptop and television

III. Lesson Proper

A. Review
Ask the students about their previous lesson.
What they learn in the previous topic.
Ask the learners if they really understand the past lesson

B. Motivation
The teacher will ask one of the students to lead for their action song.
Every students must participate to this mini exercise.

C. Activity
The teacher initiates class discussion on “How do planes know where
to land and ships know where to navigate to?” the teacher writes all
responses on board.

D. Abstraction
The teacher will define the following terms: latitude and longitude,
Prime meridian and Equator. The teacher will also describe the location of
a certain place using the latitude and longitude. Every students must
practice on how to locate a place using their maps. The teacher models
using various places on the map and gives the latitude and longitude
points of those places.

E. Application
Students work in pairs and are provided with a world map containing
latitude and longitude grids. Students are given a set of 10 points and are
asked to record what major area is located at that point (city, nation,
ocean, mountain range). Students are also given 10 areas and are to give
the latitude and longitude points on the map of the area.

IV. Assessment
On their activity notebook, the learners will answer the given quiz.

V. Assignment
Research about the Philippine Environment.
