Instructional Planning

(The process of systematically planning, developing, evaluating and managing the instructional process by
using principles of teaching and learning - D.O. 42, s. 2016)
Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP) Format

DLP No.: 11 Learning Area: Math Grade Level: 7 Quarter: 2 Duration: 60mins
Learning
Competency/ Adds and subtracts polynomials. Code: M7AL-lld-2
ies:
Key Rule for Adding Polynomials:
Concepts / Arrange similar terms in column then add the numerical coefficients using the rule in addition of signed
Understandi numbers and bring down the literal coefficients.
ngs to be
Rule for Subtracting Polynomials:
Developed:
Arrange similar terms in column then change the sign of the subtrahend and proceed to the rule of addition.

Similar or like terms are terms with same literal coefficients.

The numerical coefficients is the numerical factor in a monomial.
The literal coefficient is the literal factor in a monomial.

1. Objectives
Knowledge Represent polynomials using Algebra Tiles.
Skills Add and subtract polynomials.
Attitudes Apply the rule in adding and subtracting polynomials with accuracy.
Values Improve self-discipline and efficiency by actively engaging in the different tasks and activities.
2. Content Addition and Subtraction of Polynomials
3. Learning
Resources LM in Math 7, Workbook in Math Grade 7, powerpoint presentation, projector/TV, laptop/netbook, Algebra
/Materials/ Tiles
Equipment
4. Procedures (indicate the steps you will undertake to teach the lesson and indicate the no. of minutes each
step will consume)

1. Prayer
2. Attendance and Physical Arrangement Check
3. Checking of Assignment

ACTIVITY 1:
Preparation Refer to LM, Activity 1 on pp. 130 or see attachments for the activity format
5minutes
ASK:
1. How did you represent polynomials using Algebra Tiles?
2. How to know if the tile is positive or negative?
3. What tile represents 𝑥 2 , 𝑥, and 1? Describe each.
4. Do you think these tiles are useful in adding and subtracting polynomials? How?

Let’s get started:

1. State and discuss the rules in adding and subtracting polynomials both vertical and horizontal
method.
2. Let the students find a partner and let them do the task collaboratively.
3. Consider these polynomials:
3𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 + 3 ; 5𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 + 7
4. Let them add and subtract the first polynomial from the second polynomial.
5. Ask volunteers to show their answers on the board.
Presentation 6. Ask the following:
20 minutes  What is the sum and difference of the polynomials?
 What did you do to easily add and subtract polynomials?
 Are all terms possible to be added or subtracted? Why/Why not?
 What did you do with unlike terms?
7. The teacher will give additional polynomials to add and subtract
8. Select volunteers to show and explain their answers on the board.

*If time and classroom situation warrants, introduce addition and subtraction of polynomials using Algebra
Tiles.
Answer Worksheet 11.0 - Test A and B #1 – 3 in Workbook in Math 7 pp. 57-58
Teachers may give additional numbers if necessary.

A. Arrange the terms in column then add. Show your solutions. (Instead of arranging the terms in column,
allow the student to use his/her preferred method.)
1. −3𝑟𝑠 + 15𝑟𝑠 + 20𝑟𝑠
Practice 2. 2(𝑎 + 𝑏) + (−3)(𝑎 + 𝑏) + 8(𝑎 + 𝑏)
10 minutes 3. (15𝑎 − 3𝑏 + 15𝑐) + (−7𝑎 + 4𝑏 − 18𝑐)

B. Arrange the terms in column and find the difference.

1. −8𝑏 2 − (−4𝑏 2 )
2. 33𝑥𝑦 2 − (−45𝑥𝑦 2 )
3. (7𝑚 + 3𝑛 − 3) − (5𝑚 − 2𝑛 + 9)

5. Assessment (indicate whether it is thru Observation and/ or Talking/conferencing to learners and/or

Analysis of Learner’s Products and/or Tests)

Answer Worksheet 11.0 - Test A and B #4 – 6 in Workbook in Math 7 pp. 57-58

Teachers may give additional numbers if necessary.
