Abstract

The study entitled "The Phytochemical Analysis of Wound Healing Properties

Present in Methanolic Extract of Carabao Grass (Paspalum conjugatum)" was conducted

by the proponents Princess Julia T. Sarabia, Kashmyre Urzela Bristy V. Alam, Arlene

Ledesma L. Cabaltica, Francezka Noelle P. Franco, Francesca Diane M. Tan, and

Jahnelle Marianne U. Urbano.

The prevalence of diseases and the increasing prices of medicine had been

resulted in the demand for discovery of inexpensive but potent source of drugs. Plants

are one of the best sources of potent drugs and one of which is the carabao grass. The

phytochemical properties found in Carabao Grass are beneficial for healing fever,

stomach trouble, and wound. For further knowledge, the proponents of the study chose

to do a study on the wound healing properties present in the methanolic extract of carabao

grass (Paspalum conjugatum) through photochemical analysis. The aim of this study was

to identify the most dominant wound healing properties present in methanolic extract of

Carabao grass and to determine if there was a correlation between the controlled group,

which is the standard result of Phytochemical Screening, and the result of the

experimental group in terms of Flavonoids, Saponins, and Tannins.

In this study, the proponents used Soxhlet Extraction and Phytochemical Screening

for the Methods of Extraction. The result of Shindo's Test in Flavonoids, Froth Test in

Saponins, and Ferric Chloride Test in Tannins were the Dependent variables and the

amount of Carabao grass extract, distilled water, and Ammonia Solution were the

Independent Variables.
The results of the evaluation of the results were analyzed using the correlation

coefficient r. It has been found that the most dominant wound healing property present in

methanoic extract of carabao grass was Tannins which has a quantity of 9%. At 10.50%

of standard detection limit of Flavonoids and with 0% result of Phytochemical Screening

in Flavonoids, there is no correlation or relationship between the variables of controlled

group and experimental group. At 3.95% of standard detection limit of Saponins and with

0% result of Phytochemical Screening in Flavonoids, there is no correlation or relationship

between the variables of controlled group and experimental group. At 6% of standard

detection limit of Tannins and with 0% result of Phytochemical Screening in Flavonoids,

there is no correlation or relationship between the variables of controlled group and

experimental group.
