INTRODUCTION

DESIGN (R&B) CIRCLE, GANDHINAGAR

Designs (R & B) circle is a premier design organization of roads & building

department. It acts as nodal Centre for providing designs & technical solution for bridges &
building projects for government of Gujarat. Designs (R & B) circle is providing
benchmarking services for last 46 years in the area of bridge & building design, over the
years it has successfully completed approximately 1700 nos. of major bridge projects and
3000 nos. of building projects with latest state of the art technology in the structural design.

 Seismic retrofitting of buildings and bridges as per latest seismic codal provisions and
state of the art technology.

 Advanced computing facilities and possessing software such as MIDAS Civil,

STAAD PRO, STRUDWIN and AutoCAD.
 Standardization of structural drawings for local building and R.C.C. frame structure.

 Preparation of guidelines for retrofitting of load bearing structure in Seismic Zone III,
IV & V.

 Design of bridges and buildings for other department of government of Gujarat on

outsourcing basis.

 Design bridge and building at the fees approved by GoG.

1 PART-A: BUILDING DESIGN

 The RCC Framed Structure is modelled using STAAD Pro. The load calculations and the load
combinations are done as oer the relevant IS codes. The structure is then analysed using
STAAD. The analysis results are then used for the design of the various elements of the
structure.
 The design was carriesd out by Limit State Method in accordance with IS codes.

1.3 Building design by STAAD PRO:

Steps to do analysis and design in STAAD PRO:-

1. Model the real structure using tools provided in the software.

2. Assign the section properties to the elements.

3. Assign the supports.

4. Assign loads to the structures.

5. Put the model on the analysis.

6. Design Elements – Beams, column, slab and footing

7. Detailing of Reinforcement for Beams, column, slab, footing components
