Q.1-Read the unseen passage carefully and ans. that follows.
A joke is a joke. The genre of comedy doesn’t really matter. My favourite comedians span
the genres. Whether they’re over the top, deadpan , anecdotal, whether they talk about their
families , their lives or the government , as long as they’re funny, who cares what the topic
might be? Someone’s POV –be it social, political or whatever-can sometimes dictate
whether you like them or not.
The jokes I’m writing now are generic and silly and fun. But, that’s a personal decision .
Right now there is such an explosion of politics that I would understand if an audience
thinks:just tell me about oranges or birds or you travel to Dubai. You can’t blame them. It’s
too much . Maybe you want to come to a comedy show to forget.
Before being a comedian , I’m a fan of comedy. I love most comedians. I love talking to
them , listening to them and seeing what they’re thinking. I just like jokes, so keep telling me
whatever you want.
3: What is the change that occurs in the journey of the writer as a comedian?
4: Do you like comedy shows? Why are comedy shows popular these days?

NEWSPAPERS
Newspapers sell because of news and editorial coverage but it gets more revenue from
advertisements. News costs money, while advertisements fetch money. The economics of
modern newspapers is such that it cannot run by just selling news; it has to depend on
advertisements. The economics of newspaper publishing requires both subscribers who can
afford to buy newspapers and businessmen who can afford to advertise in it. The growth of
the press depends on both. Therefore, in newspaper management, neither aspect can be
neglected.
Co-ordination among the various departments – editorial, circulation, advertising and
production – is very essential for effective and better management. The head of various
departments must be part of the management of a newspaper. They must be aware of the
goals set, policies and future plans of the management. They cannot afford to remain cut off
from the mainstream of management function. In addition, each department should keep the
other department managers informed of those of its activities that will be useful to them. This
is a vital aspect of newspaper management.
2. The economics of modern newspapers is such that it cannot run by just selling news.
Why?
4. Suppose you are the head of one of the departments. What will you do for the
management of newspaper ?

The film industry is facing the challenge of the television screen which, because of its
ready availability and nearness to entertainment seekers, is becoming very
popular, particularly in the West where television programmes are as indispensable to
people as newspaper material.Sustained entertainment for multitudes lasting two or
three hours is possible only in big cinema halls.Scenic beauty, background effects
musical effects and colour techniques which have made the products of cinema
industry so attractive and delightful may not be reproduced by television programme
organisers, and therefore, this important invention in the field of wireless
communication,in spite of having become a big rival of the cinema, may not succeed
in replacing it.
The motion picture has also stepped into the international sphere as an agent of
goodwill and co-operation among nations. Cultural contacts which tend to reduce
tension in the world and bring harmony in international relations have been established
through the medium of films. The more people understand and appreciate the past
history, present aims and customs, habits and beliefs of men and women in foreign
lands , the more they will realise that their interests can best be served by
establishing friendly relations with them and by removing those irritants which breed
distrust, lack of co- operation and the desire to punish those whose views and
attitudes are such as they do not like. Film festivals which many European and Asian
countries have been organising from time to time have also proved to be of immense
value in reducing social barriers , colour prejudices and other causes of friction
between nations.
2.The qualities that make film industry more attractive than television screen.
4.Do you agree that T.V or films work as an agent of goodwill and co-operation.
