USA LSM100 LOAD SHARING MODULE prianto AUGUST 1997 ft PRODUCT TECHNICAL INFORMATION irRopucTion Tho function ofa Load Sharing Module ist proportionally share load between two or more generator sets while the systom Frequency is held constant. As an accessory tothe Electronic Governing System, tho LSM1O0 measures the true power cur- ‘onl, and through a paralol cabo itercannecton, continuously controls the governor system. The all electronic power sensing ‘method ciscriminaies more closely between real and reactive ‘current so thatthe governor will respond tothe real portion oly, By using various oop and power contol connections, the Load ‘Sharing Module can parallol and share load withthe ulliy's main ‘bus. If synchronous generators aro loctically paralleled to increase thal load camying capably, a system to apportion the load is required. Even the finest electric {governees vll have minor trequency diferences arnong unis to be paraiold. For this reason, one generator sat will continuously increase the powerit procuces, while the other sets wil decresso the power they produce. Terminal S signals the Auto Synchronizer to permit main breaker closure. If the Generator voltage is lower than the required tolerence band (2, 0F 5%), the "RAISE" LED will ight and the relay will ‘change ste catsing the motorized potentiometer MP502 to ‘operate. AS the motor tums the potentiometer, the voltage regulator sting will be altered by the potentiometer to mise the Generator’ voltage to match the Mains voluge. Conversely, if the Generator voltage is to high, the opposite will take place. One the two vollages have been mached 10 within the tolerence for atleast 100 ms, a syne enable signal ‘will be sent to the Auto Synchronizer allowing paralleling tooceur. ‘The Avio Synchronizer will only close its internal relay ‘when the genensior is in phase with, and the voltage is, ‘matched to the mains. When the voltage level returs wo within range, the VMA100 wil ‘again operate the motorized pot to’ null the vollage difference to within the selected tolerance band. ‘A calibration adjustment, below the DIP switches, is ‘Provided to balance the tolerence range- This is factory set nd should not requize further adjustment. If adjustment is ‘equal voltages should be applied tothe inputs and the adjustment wed to set the voltage on Test Point A to 5.0 Volts. “L “au oF onan our o enna ‘oveRNons erica Con 720 Silver St. + Agawam, MA 01001-2907, USA - (413) 786-5600 FAX (413) 786-5666 erat info@governors-ameica.com Internet: yew governors-americacom o ENGINE GOVERNING SYSTEMS SYNCHRONIZER iL « LE GOVERNORS AMERICA CORP. + 720 Silver St. + Agawam, MA 01001-2907, USA sYC6714 SYNCRHONIZER Tl 4030 PRODUCT TECHNICAL INFORMATION FRERLARY 1008 INTRODUCTION ‘when paraising a synchronous generator to a main bus ‘consisting of other generators or the uty, both the phase ‘and voltage levels of each power system must be matched. ‘The SYCB7I4 is an accessory module which adjusts the speed governor to oblain an equal phase relationship between the oncoming generator and the main bus. A "SYNC CHECK" function is provided which can activate a relay to connect the generator to the main bus. The typical time for synchronization is usualy less than 3 seconds ‘when the generator sets ere at rated speed with optimum ‘governor performance settings. DESCRIPTION ‘Tho synchronizer monitors the phase and frequency ofits ‘generator and the main bus. These two AC signals are ‘lectrcally isolated from each other and from the governor speed control unit. A phase comparison ofthe two AC sig ras is mage and a corective analog OC signals generated. ‘Ths correction signal adjusts the governor speed setting unt the electical phase error between the generator and the main bus is eliminated, With the two AC signals and the ‘enabling signal at Terminal, the synchronization process ‘wil commence. Any phase error that results may be trimmed out by using the internal “Phase Error Adjust: rant”, When the enable signal at Terminal § 's removed, the synchronizer wil assume a neutal output. ‘Awide range of AC input vottages and wave shapes can be ‘accepted by the synchronizer. Isolation between input sig- fale allows each ganerator to be isolated from each othor Until the actual paralleing occurs. I the generator output ‘voltage exceeds the specified input limits of the SYCE714, isolation transformers of proper ratio will be required. ‘A measurement of the phase relationship between tha two {AC inputs ie continuousy available as an analog voltage at Terminal 11. A level of appcoximately 6.1 V indicates an in~ phase condition. The synchronizer dynamic contol cir- Cuts include graduated GAIN and STABILITY aciust- ments. These controls are used to obiain optimum syn- Shronization times and stable performance. The GAIN adjusts the sensitivity of the synchronizer output to the fovernor. A clockwise adjustment increases the sensitivity Of the system, Tho STABILITY adjusts the time rate of response ofthe synchronizer output. Both contols operate Independently, are easly optimized, and are similar in func tion tothe gain and stably adjustments on GAC speod contol units ‘A separate internal Breaker Closure/Syne Chock circuit has its own variable phase angle window for controling the breaker closure, Window phase angle may be adjusted between near 0 degrees upto about 25 degrees. Clockwise rotation of the graduated BREAKER CLOSURE ANGLE adjustment reduces the window to neer 0, inhibiting breaker closure. The phase angle must stay within the phase angle window for at least 1/2 second for synchro ‘ization t0 oceut. It during this time the phase angle ‘momentarly exceeds the breaker closure setting, the tne period of 1/2 second must be repeated. System stabilty is ‘ery important during ths ctical time period. Once synchronization is complete and the units are para leled, the synetvorizer should be reset to its neutral output ‘and disabled position. The wiring diagram (Figure 2) shows switching method that resets the unt by disconnecting the synchronizer output from the governor and opening the reset line at Terminal 5. Disconnection of the Mains input ‘Signal (Terminal 3 and 4) also causes the synchronizer to reset, The synchronizer now assumes a neutral position with Terminal 6 holding a constant output voltage of 5.1 Volts Synchronizer operation may be checked/tested without activating the breaker closure relay by connecting a jumper fr a switch betwoen Terminals 7 and 10. With this jumper in place, the synchronizer functions normally except the treaker losur ralay will not close. The green LED indi tor that signifies when the generator is synchronized wi operate during ths test. ead us Operation 1f the maing input is missing, the synchronizer will not attempt to synerronize the system. A separate system may be used to close this oncoming generator onto the bus vahich will provide a reference to which the others may syn- chronize. Votage Matching and Monitoring GAG offers a separate module, the VMA100, which when Used combines all the voltage monitoring functions and ‘adjustment function, In combination with the SYC8714, a comprehensive system results, See GAC publication PIB4O90 for dotalsof this adction function. ‘SPECIFICATIONS GENERATOR AND MAIN BUS AC INPUTS Sensitivity ‘50 VAMS - 500 VRMS fine-to-line or line-neutral) Frequency {50 oF 60 HZ Nom. Care ‘should be taken to Hnit exposure of the unit to extreme temperatures, f water or condensation may come in eon- tact wth the synchronizer, mount it vertically to prevent ‘accumdaton inside the unt Connecting cables cary low currents and special size wire is nat requred. The connection between the speed control tunit and synehvonizer Terminal 6 is sensitive and must be shielded over ls entire length. The shield should be con nected atone end only where other shields are grounded at te case, or at Terminal 10, [Note: The phasing ofthe mains and the generator signals js euch that when synchronized, Terminals 1 and 3 are in ‘phase, (See phasing dots on case) ‘Since the SYCS714 is a CE (Community Europe) approved tnt, ert instaation raquirements must be met to main- tain EMC capabily. The unit must be securely mounted to a metal round plane, shielded cabies must be used where shown in the wiring diagram, and a ground strap must be Connected from Terminal 10 to the case as shown in the wiring ciagram. When installed according to these proce Cures, the synchronizer wil have excellent resistance to external fields.
