My Leadership Story

I was leading a team of 5 people for our federal efficiency project for a leading energy
provider. My project was based on creating an analytics based energy insights application to
convert potential sales lead by tailoring the business process around customer needs.

But due to frequent changes in requirement and lack of data availability led to delay in the
project and still our clients pushed us to complete it on our earlier promised timelines or
else it will lead to closure of the project engagement.
In order to save the engagement, team started working late and was overloaded with work,
which lead to negativity in the team and hence quality of work went considerably down. The
loss of energy was very evident and I sensed the loss of motivation in the team.
I realized it has to be resolved as soon as possible and helped the team by initially
streamline the process and then divided the work according to the bandwidth and skill set. I
also made the routine to have stand-up meeting in the morning so that we can plan our day.

Also , I raised the team’s issue with manager, who helped us to identify the loopholes in the
approach we followed. I resolved the issue by communicating progress and delays (due to
lack of data) on daily basis. Secondly, I streamlined our planning process and set up peer QC
procedures.
I also made the new timelines according to the data and the time my team required to
complete the project. Now the tasks are divided on basis of new timelines and strong areas
of a person which lead to optimum amount of work each team member.
