 Virtualized Environments (VMWare)

o Virtualization is the process of creating a software-based, or virtual,

representation of something, such as virtual applications, servers, storage and
networks. It is the single most effective way to reduce IT expenses while
boosting efficiency and agility for all size businesses.
 Microsoft Active Directory
o Active Directory (AD) is a Microsoft technology used to
manage computers and other devices on a network. It is a primary feature of
Windows Server
o Active Directory allows network administrators to create and
manage domains, users, and objects within a network. For example, an admin
can create a group of users and give them specific access privileges to
certain directories on the server. As a network grows, Active Directory
provides a way to organize a large number of users into logical groups and
subgroups, while providing access control at each level.
 Microsoft Exchange
o Microsoft Exchange Server is a mail server and calendaring server developed
by Microsoft. It runs exclusively on Windows Server operating systems
 DNS
o The Domain Name System (DNS) is the phonebook of the Internet
 VPNs
o A virtual private network extends a private network across a public network,
and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as
if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network

 Firewall

o a firewall is a network security system that monitors, and controls incoming

and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. A firewall
typically establishes a barrier between a trusted internal network and untrusted
external network, such as the Internet.

1 Can you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

 I graduated from Monash university, specialized in network and security.

Passion in networking gives me skills in implementing and maintaining
networking infrastructures, including hands-on experience in setting up with
Cloud Hosting, upgrades, deployments, monitoring all aspects of
network/system infrastructures and preventing security issues to ensure high
network reliability. I have 2 years’ experience in networking and system. I am
currently working part time at Melbourne Chinese Media. My main duty there
includes managing servers and dns using aws platform, troubleshooting
network and repair of network related issues. I also have experience in securing
and performing penetration test on servers. I am not hesitated to wear multiple
hats.

2 What about this position that attracts you?

 I feel that my current experience makes me an excellent match for the job
requirements. Also, the role excites me because Dufry is a worldwide company
where I can work with people who is much better than me so I can learn a lot
from them. It is not only an opportunity for me to apply my skills in network
and system admin but also a chance to develop them to a next level

 Dufry also attracts me because it provides a dynamic environment with people

from different backgrounds, languages. This helps me to get in touch with
many people as well.

3 Can you please tell me more about your exposure in network infrastructure?

4 What is your understanding and experience in the POS environment?

 PoS (Point-of-Sale, or Point of Service). The term is applicable to a retail shop

or store, the checkout/cashier counter in the store, or a location where such
transactions can occur in this type of environment. In the case of some
locations, with wireless capable systems or network wired via TCP/IP

 electronic cash register systems, touch-screen display, barcode scanners, receipt

printers, scales and pole displays

5 What has been your experience in system standards, Firewall, MS Ad, Exchange
and DNS, VPNs ?
 In my current job at Melbourne Chinese Media, I have a chance to config
firewall and

6 Tell me one of your difficult customers in your experience. How did you deal with
her/him?

 During my project at Monash university, we have to build a website which

provides information for newcomers about sun exposure. We came to an
agreement with our customer about the functions of the website: displaying
current UV index, UV comparison between cities, risk calculator, future
planner, clinic finder and quiz. When we almost completed all the functions,
the customer suddenly changed his mind. He wanted to modify future planner
function and remove quiz function because he thought it would be good for his
website. I explained to him that we could easily remove the quiz function. But
increasing prediction UV index (main function of future planner) from 3 to 7
days is a huge problem. We needed time to gather and analyse more
information from trusted sources. This process could not be rushed because if
the information we provided were incorrect, people would get into serious
trouble with their health. Instead of doing that, I suggested him to keep our
current functions to make sure we meet the deadline. After that, we have time
to modify and implement the future planner function. Our customer agreed
with that and we successfully delivered the website in time with fully
functions.

7 How have you been effective at explaining complicated technical challenges with
someone who doesn't have a technical background?

 I faced that challenge with my current manager. Our website had been attacked
and servers were down. The consequences make our customer could not
connect to the website and the company loose profit. I talked to the manager
that our website is currently using HTTP, which is not secure. We need to
upgrade it to HTTPS to prevent any attacks in the future. Because the manager
does not have any technical background, I explained to him that by upgrading,
it would not only help his business run more smoothly but also help me doing
my jobs better and easier. Finally, I got his permission. I successfully upgraded
the website and the manager feel happy about it.
8 Tell me about a time where you have failed to configure a network issue, what
happened and what were your actions to resolve the matter?

9 Describe the best partner or supervisor with whom you've worked. What part of
their managing style appealed to you?

 I have had the opportunity to work with an excellent supervisor at PTV. I have
always been able to effectively communicate with him and he would often
acknowledge my hard work and dedication. He always spent time to explain
things if I don’t understand and also gave very constructive feedback when
needed, which I believe has helped me to further develop my skills.
 For the managing style, I love the way he communicated with our team
member to find out what were our advantages, disadvantages, to know more
about us to prevent any conflict. I believed communication is the most effective
way to manage a team.

10 Recall a time when your manager was unavailable when a problem arose. How did
you handle the situation? With whom did you consult?

11 Tell me about a time when you had to juggle several projects at once. How did you
organize your time? What was the result?

 During my last semester at Monash university, beside our main project, I had to
deal with 2 big assignments. First of all, I would buckle down and figure out
the best approach to completing the tasks. I would start by organizing the tasks
from most important to least, and then I would begin working on the most
important task. If there were any tasks I could delegate to other capable
individuals, I would not be afraid to ask for assistance. Finally, I completed my
assignments and my main project before due date.

12 Tell me about the toughest work problem you had a hand in solving. How did you
do it? What was the proposed solution?
 During my internship at PTV, our supervisor suddenly wanted to change entire
report a day before we present it to the manager. The supervisor was unhappy
with my team’s first draft because the report had bad structure and the
information was incorrect. We were tasked with redoing the entire report. We
organized a late-night brainstorm that evening. This was challenging because it
was my first time working under time pressure and also our one chance to
make the supervisor happy again. I overcame this challenge by looking at
previously successful presentations for the supervisor, analysing the feedback
he gave on our initial report and incorporating all of the team’s ideas into the
new report. At the end, the supervisor was ultimately thrilled with the fresh
report.

 How do you deal with multiple priorities (OR How do you prioritise your daily
tasks) ?

o First of all, I would collect a list of all tasks I need to do. Then I will I
identify which one is urgent and important. Next, I take a look at the
important work and see what carries the highest value to do it first.

 How do you resolve conflicts at work?

o I always take the person aside and discuss the issue privately. I listen
actively to make sure I understand the other person’s point of view, and I
work with the person to develop a solution together.” Even if we both
don’t completely agree on the end result, at least I tried to have a
halfway conversation.

 Tell me about a time when you were asked to do something you had never done
before. How did you react? What did you learn?

o In my internship, my supervisor asked me to analyse given raw data,

which was something I’d never done before. I explained to him that I
had no experience about this but volunteered to do all of the work if
someone more experienced could offer guidance. I met with several
employees who had experience with data, studied best practices and
successfully analysing given raw data. Thanks to that hands-on learning
experience, I can handle data myself using SQL.

 Tell me about the biggest change that you had to deal with. How did you adapt
to that change?

 What would make you choose our company over others?

o Dufry is a worldwide company where I can work with people who is

much better than me so I can learn a lot from them. It is not only an
opportunity for me to apply my skills in network and system admin but
also a chance to develop them to a next level

 What are 3 words your manager would use to describe you? Your best friend?
Your parents?

 Give me an example of when you had to work with someone who was difficult
to get along with. How did you handle interactions with that person?

o During my project at Monash University, we had a team member who

was late to meetings and missed deadlines for few weeks. He indeed
slowed the team down and as a team lead, it was important that I
addressed this matter. I approached him privately to understand what
was going on that was preventing him from working well with the team
and then offered any support to get him there. He said that he was
having trouble with his girlfriend and he was also working on it. He
sorried for slowing down the team and promise it would not happen
again. Next week, he’s back to normal and this helps us to catch up with
the deadline

 Describe the best partner or supervisor with whom you've worked. What part of
their managing style appealed to you?

o I have had the opportunity to work with an excellent supervisor at PTV.

His name is Nicholas Seak. I have always been able to effectively
communicate with him and he would often acknowledge my hard work
and dedication. He always spent time to explain things if I don’t
understand and also gave very constructive feedback when needed,
which I believe has helped me to further develop my skills.

o For the managing style, I love the way he communicated with our team
member to find out what were our advantages, disadvantages, to know
more about us to prevent any conflict. I believed communication is the
most effective way to manage a team.

 Can you give an example of an idea you had at work that you were able to
bring to life?

 How do you determine what amount of time is reasonable for a task?

 Tell me about a time when you had to communicate an uncomfortable message

to your manager or your client. How do you handle it?

 Describe a situation where you felt you had not communicated well. How did
you correct the situation?
o Recently there was a time when I was giving presentation to my
tutor and team members at Monash university. I was taking down
my setup and he asked me could I ask you a question? I jokingly
replied, no more questions, and then offered; yes of course, I
would be happy to answer a question for you. Despite the fact that he
laughed I thought it had not been received well. Then I went up and
apologized to him and made it clear that I had no disrespect for him
and sometimes I just get comfortable with people very quickly. He
accepted my apologize and it was an unforgettable memory.

 Tell me about a time when you had a negative experience with a co-worker,
client or customer who complained about you. How did you fix the issue to
improve the relationship and resolve the situation?

 Give me an example of a time when you went above and beyond a specific
project ask/scope.

o In my current situation at Melbourne Chinese Media, my duty was

upgrading security of current server after being attacked. I have the
consent from my manager to apply HTTPS on webserver. But after
reconsider, I thought it was not enough. So, I continued to convince my
manager to make some backup of current web server. This way, if there
are some serious problems happened, we can easily bring web server
back online.
