Set at an altitude of 6000 ft in the south of the Western Ghats, Munnar was the favoured summer destination of the
erstwhile Colonial rulers. Sprawling tea plantations, picturesque towns, and exotic flora and fauna make Munnar an oft
visited tourist destination. The Shola forests in and around Munnar are ideal for trekking and house a variety of birds. The
highest peak in South India, Anamudi towering over 2695m is also located here.
The Itinerary
Day 1 - Our trek starts 20 km from Munnar at Chinnakanal, a little town emerging from the tea gardens. The
walk to the Anaerangal camp at over 1600m will take us through mountainous terrain and through forests.
We should arrive at the camp by late afternoon. You have the rest of the day to explore the remarkable
beauty of this hill resort.
Day 2 – We start our trek from the Anaerangal camp, through the forests towards the edge of the famed
Anaerangal Lake. The lake known for its elephant population, winds across a large area and is a source of
water for farmers downstream. Spices like pepper and cardamom thrive here in this perfect climate. After a
picnic lunch, we depart for our next destination.
