thick shall lay between the concrete slab and sub-base by nailing with concrete nails to the lower
layer. Where overlap is necessary the same shall be laid by at least 300mm.

7.0 Procedure:
a) Mix:
'r The mix shall be designed as per IS 102621. And the design shall be basecl on the llexural
strer-rgth of coucrete.

r 'fhe water coltent shall be minimum required to provide workability for full compaction of the
concrete to the required density. The maximurn fiee water cement ratio shall be 0.5.

/ The nrix shall be proporlioned to give an average strength at 28 days exceeding the specified
strengrh (4.5Mpa) by 1.65 times the standard deviation calculated from the flexural strength of
thc- f irst .10 br:ams first cluring the trial length and then the job control test beams (during the
acrual execution).'fhe minimum cement content shall be 360 Kgs as per MORTFI clause 602.3.2

The workabilitl, reqr-rirements at the batching plant and at site shall be established by slump tests
while doing trial length. The ratio of 7 days strength to 28 days strength shall be maintained, by
testing pairs of beams and cubes batch wise for at least six batches of trial mix.

b) !lixing:

The ntaterials shall be mixed in a mechanized batching plant consisting air-conditioned


centralized control cabin, minimum 4bins, weigh hoppers" separate scales for cement, fine and
coarse aggregate with weighing balanpes calibratr:d, aggregates being proportioned by
automatic weighing devices using load cells.

I'he surfbce to bc tested shall be dried; any extraneous mortar and loose material shall be rem6ved
and su'ept clean. Lrsing a wire brush at right angles and parallel to the carriagervay. A cylindrical
container ot' 25nrl capacity shall be filled with sand passing 3OQmicrons sieve and retained on
l50microns sieve. compacted by tapping the base and excess sand stroked off to level with the top
of cylinder. Then the sand shall be poured on the surface to be tested into a heap and spread with
the help of flat wooden disc of 64rnm diameter of l.5mm thick, with its face kept flat, in a circular
motion. so that the sand is spread into a circular patch, with the surface depressions filled with sald
to the level of peaks.

The ciianreter of the patch shall be measured to the nearest 5mm. fhe texture depth of concrete shall
