THE INFLUENCE OF SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION TECHNIQUE TOWARDS

STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY AT THE SEVENTH CLASS OF SMPN 2


PESAWARAN IN 2019/2020

ABSTRACT

This classroom action research will be conducted on class VII students of SMPN 2
Pesawaran 2019/2020, because in language skills there are fundamental problems
such as the low ability of students in speaking skills. The low level of speaking skills
is due to the conventional learning methods used, usually using the method of
lecturing or oneway.

To improve speaking skills, a method change is carried out by using the discussion
method. The objectives to be achieved in this classroom action research are (1)
improving students' ability to speak in class VII of SMPN 2 Pesawaran by using the
discussion method, (2) improving student learning outcomes, and (3) increasing
teacher innovation in the learning process.

Data collection is done through observation of student activity. The evaluation


process is carried out in two types, namely the assessment of the process and the
final assessment in the form of tests.
