A REPORT ON THE CELEBRATION OF THE 120th PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE


DAY 2018 WITH THE OATH TAKING OF THE NEWLY ELECTED BARANGAY
OFFICIALS AND THE EXECUTIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2017-2018.

“Madamo pa kita sing lalab-uton, gani sa atun pagbinuligay, atun gid


malambot ang handom sang atun mga kasimanwa, kag sang atun banwa. Ang
padayon nga pagdihun sang isa ka matahom nga programa kag ang pag
implementar sang madamo nga proyekto, ang pag suporta sa atun kabataan,
sa atun mga senior citizen, kag sa nag kalain-lain nga sector sang banwa sang
Buenavista. Padayon kita sa atun pagpanglakatun nga may paghili-usa,
pagbinuligay, padulong sa matawhay, mainuswagon kag matahom nga
banwang Buenavista. Salida Buenavista!”
Those were the inspiring words given by the Father of the Municipality of Buenavista,
Honorable Eugenio G. Reyes, in his State of the Municipal Address (SOMA), during the 120th
Independence Day celebration last June 12, 2018 held at the municipal heroes park with a theme:
“Kalayaan 2018: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan“.

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Buenavista, Province of Guimaras, conducted a very
special program to gratefully thank our country’s Heroes for their heroic act of gaining independence
and inline with this was the Oath Taking Ceremony for the newly elected Barangay Officials. It was
started by a group parade, followed by a short program participated by all government and private
sectors namely: the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management
& Penology, Veterans Federation of the Philippines-Guimaras District, Federation of Senior Citizens
Association of the Philippines-Buenavista Chapter, Faculty and Staff from Private and Public
Elementary and High Schools and Guimaras State College Campuse, Municipal and Barangay
officials and municipal employees, and the Non-Government Organizations, People's Organizations
(NGOs) and many more groups just to make the event a memorable one.

The highlight of the program was the State of the Municipal Address (SOMA) by the Municipal
Mayor, who vigorously elaborated the accomplishments of the Local Government Units (LGU) gained
from different sectors under his governance in the aspects of Administration, Social, Environmental
and Economic Development for the past year, the current undertakings and the future plans for the
betterment of Buenavista. He also tackled about the budgetary plans for various projects intended for
infrastructures like the construction of a water sewage treatment for the public market and other
businesses, additional building for the Buenavista wharf, road widening and upgrading of the water
supply system. He also said that he is constantly and will continuously support the financial program
for senior citizens, 4Ps, PWDs and scholarship for students. His administration is also aiming for
more livelihood and outreach programs in terms of medical, dental and other health services.

And finally, he thank all the people behind the success of every projects taken for the
municipality and eagerly encourage the Buenavistahanons to fully support and commit to the
programs of the government inorder to attain a better future for the next generations to come. After
giving his inspirational message, the recognition and giving of certificates for the Veterans Federation
of the Philippines members took place, which remind us how bravely they fought for our
independence. Then, the municipal mayor with the first lady, Mrs. Mary Wilzen C. Reyes, together
with the municipal officials, head of offices, other guests and the fellow Buenavistahanons offered
bouquets in front of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s monument, our national hero, as a sign of gratitude.

Afterwhich was the oath taking ceremony for the newly elected thirty six (36) barangay
captains with their respective barangay kagawad officiated by the Municipal Mayor.

And inorder to make the occasion satisfactorily, the municipality of Buenavista officials
together with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), took the chance to distribute school
supplies and slippers to the children as a gift-giving, with the contribution of our fellow
Buenavistahanon donor from Guam, USA, in the persona of Mr. Pacifico Martir. And for the rest of the
Buenavistahanon, a raffle draw was also given.
