This bulletin announces the availability of the Outline of Investigation for Special Purpose
Aboveground Tanks for Specific Flammable or Combustible Liquids, UL 142A.

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. has issued an Outline of Investigation for Special Purpose Aboveground
Tanks for Specific Flammable or Combustible Liquids:

The Outline identifies the existing requirements and some new options for steel tanks with
specialized use applications, restricted liquids ratings, and other unique features.

The special purpose tank types covered by these requirements are – Generator Base Tanks,
Work Top Tanks, Lube Oil Tanks, Used Oil Tanks, and Day Tanks.

These special purpose tanks differ from UL 142 general use tanks which are intended to cover
a wider range of use applications for more flammable and combustible liquids.
