CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

This chapter presents the method engage by the volunteers in the study which includes the
introduction, statement of the problem, theoretical framework, significance of the study, scope
and delimitation, and definition of terms.

Introduction

As Dr. Jose Rizal stated that, “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan”. It reminds us to be a good
citizen, to stand for the truth and to be the channel of hope. He mean that the youth is the key to
success and the one who can initiate changes and improvement to our beloved country.

However, in today’s generation, due to continuous alteration of environment, it affects the

behavior and attitude of every children. The youth that should be a hope of our nation become
one of the major concern of the community. The values they should possessed slowly
disappearing.

In line with this, last 2018, 31 percent of the population in the Philippines are composed of
children, which is ranging 0 to 7 years of age. In our growing country, teaching our children the
heart of values must be prioritize to be able them to learn proper behavior and conduct that
everyone should have. According to George Herbert Mead, “A person develops a sense of self
through social interaction and not biological preconditions of interaction.” stating that people we
encounter has a big impact in ourlives.

As the volunteers conducted ocular visit in one of the biggest barangay here in Calamba, they
saw a happy and innocent children living in Purok 7 Parian but the volunteers observed that most
of them have to be teach a proper values to be their stepping stone to a greater plans ahead.
Volunteers came up with this proposal to put a seed of values in every heart of child living in the
community. Furthermore, it is still important to assess if the values they thought are applied in
their daily lives. As changes should start within ourselves and share this traits in the next
generation.

Objectives

The primary concern of this proposal is to build a good foundation of values in every children
living in Purok 7 Parian Calamba City.

Scope and Delimitation

This study will be conducted in the area of Purok 7 Barangay Parian, Calamba and is expected to
be done by the whole month of Febuary 2020. However, the study will only be qualified for a
respondent if they are part of that purok. It could be male or female and in different religion. The
participant must be 4-7 years old and above.

As a result of time constraints, an optimum or small sample size was chosen which is 50
respondents only, so that descriptive and precise conclusion will be drawn from it that will
provide a true representation of the population. Indeed, the conclusion that would be drawn from
the findings partially represents the study of Stepping Stone

Significance of the study

This proposal focus on planting values in childrens’ heart. Moreover, the result of this proposal
will be beneficial to the following:
Students. The result of the study will give them awareness on how they should act around
children.

Parents. The findings of the study will help them to guide their beloved children to grow
having a good character and a strong personality.

Children in the community. This study will help those children to act and grow as a better
person and to be an example to other people.

Future volunteers. It will serve as their reference material and guide for the future
volunteer who wish to conduct the same proposal related to the values of children.

CHAPTER 2

RELATED LITERATURE

Virtue is similar in that how we are (our first natures) in relation to the virtues (understood,
described by stories, taught and lived by practice) is personal; but unlike "values" the virtues are
also shared and cannot be simply chosen or ignored at will. That was the point I made earlier
about "justice" not being something one simply didn't have as part of one's "value system." All
the virtues are shared as objectively true but they are personal in how they apply to us as persons.
( IAIN T. BENSON)

Lillie (2004:24) said that “moral” comes from Latin “mores” meaning life ordinances or
customs. Budiningsih (2004:24), said that moral always refers to good and bad humans itself.
The field of moral is the aspect of human life in terms of human kindness. Thus, moral is
associated with action taken by humans. The action is not about good or bad, but it is about how
someone’s thinking comes to the decision that something is good or bad.
Family is the first and probably the foremost training ground of attitudes and normal values of
human being. It is there that the individuals learn his first lessons about what groups to
disapprove, what to consider right or wrong and what to regard as virtue. This research is a
comparative study related with moral values, social maturity and life satisfaction among male
and female college students. Ethics and morality is an essential principle in every individual life,
it is also found that life satisfaction is dependent on both moral values and social maturity of the
students. Since they are the pillars of our future generation their value pattern and social maturity
reflects in their behavior, so the present study intends to correlate between these 3 variables and
explore their relationship with each other with their environs to understand better adolescent's
behavior and there back ground in highlighting the reason. Introduction: "The age of great ideals
and beginning of theories as well as the time of simple adaptation to life" – [Jean Piaget.,1932]

All values need to be made real. Because it has persuasive power, it

should be practiced. For example, aesthetic value should be practiced, played with music
competition. One of special characteristics of moral values is this value will affect voice of pure
heart. To make moral value real, it can be appealed from pure heart, then implemented in real
action. For example, helping other people who are getting trouble. Bertens: 2000:

METHODOLOGY

This section provides the research methods that will be used to conduct the study, and also
explains how the necessary data and information address the research objectives will be
optimized and represented in order to know the The Stepping Stone.

Research Design

The volunteers will use quantitative descriptive research design in conducting the study.
Quantitative study allows the volunteers to collect data from different sources in a structured and
systematic way. This study will use a large number of participants that is ideal to quantitative
research. Descriptive research design allows the volunteers to describe the characteristics of
values education that is being introduced to the public, as such, this methodology focuses on the
research subject. Descriptive research is a quantitative research technique that endeavors to
gather quantifiable data to be utilized for measurable examination of the populace test. It is a
well-known statistical surveying device that permits to gather and depict the idea of the
demographic segment. The descriptive survey method as one of the most important so called
methods of research which looks with intense accuracy at the phenomenon, as far as the study is
concerned, at this moment. Further, it describes precisely what the researcher does, and yet
further how the analysis will take shape as such. . Questionnaire method is used to get
information in a descriptive research. This study utilizes the descriptive method of research,
which is widely accepted as a research method as presented in the above lines. Commonly
described or defined as a research which finds facts and thereby involves adequate and accurate
interpretation of findings. Relatively the method is appropriate to this study since it aims to
describe the study of proposed (title) for the students.

Participants
In this study, a total of 50 participants will be purposively selected to cater the needed data. The
chosen respondents for the study are children. However, the study will only be qualified for a
respondent if they’re currently living in the purok. It could be male or female and in different
religions . The participant must be 5-12 years old and above.

The researcher will use purposive sampling techniques. It is a method wherein the volunteers
will choose suitable respondents that can help to answer the objective of the study which is to
enlighten the respondent on distinguishing good and bad .

Instruments

The study about The Stepping Stone will use questionnaires . The questionnaire consist 10 items.
It involves question that is answerable by dichotomous variable (e.g. yes or no) and ordinal
variable which allows the children to rank the choice based on their preferences, semi- structured
questions which allows the respondents to provide specific answer which are not found on the
choices, and also Likert scale which is a psychometric response scale to get participants
preferences of agreement regarding the statement or question. In addition, to be able to validate
the instrument used, it will undergo face validity and inter-rater validity by selected expert
teachers of Calamba Doctors College in the Course of Bachelor of Science In Business
Administration .

Data-gathering Procedure

The volunteers will use a questionnaire data collection method.

The volunteers will be first creating a letter for the principal for the approval of conducting the
survey questionnaire to the participants of the research on Purok 7 Barangay Parian , Calamba .
The data gathering procedure will start from, participants should write their name in the consent
form before answering the questionnaires. Followed by the answering proper, the participants
will be given questionnaires which are consist of rating scale, in which the participants will
choose the best answer that is applicable to the participants’ insights. The participants will be
given time to answer the questionnaire.
The volunteers might also use triangulation method, it is a technique validating data with the use
of two or more sources and methods. After that, the volunteers will transcribe and encode the
data collected and confidentiality is observed. Lastly, the volunteers will examine and analyze
the data using the appropriate statistical tools.

Data Analysis

The volunteers used frequency distribution and tabulation to analyze the data, wherein it is
appropriate in knowing the number of times the answer occurred in the data in order for the
volunteers to interpret the data using tables and graphs accurately that shows The Stepping
Stone as a things that should be practiced . Additionally, this is suitable for the study because the
volunteers will only describe the results from the data gathered through tables and graphs as well
as the interpretation of the figures. In order to know the percentage of frequency, the volunteers
used the formula below:

Where:

P= Percentage

F= Frequency

n= Sample size
