Coinmen Consultants LLP: Adopting a technology-based learning culture

Q. 1 What was the rationale for contemplating KMS at Coinmen?

After the Establishment of Coinmen LLP, Goel realized that a typical KMS had the
potential to give users a false sense of security about the knowledge they drew out,
and hence could damage people’s ability to innovate and think of new solutions.

The Rationale behind contemplating KMS happened when Sahil Singh, a newly
appointed employee faced delay in one of the customer’s deliverables due to lack of
information. This information asymmetry caused Nitin Goel to go for KMS
(Knowledge management System).

The Issues which pushed Goel to adopt the system are

 Information Asymmetry when anyone left the Coinmen , these led to delays and
frustration among the employees.
 In order to compete with the big four in consulting, KMS was a must.

Q. 2 How do you think this will impact the learning culture at Coinmen?

I think if a standard KMS is adopted, this would kill the culture of brainstorming and
information sharing that has existed at Coinmen, the culture of creating an employee
base and employee expertise which had led to collaborations with the employees,
working through complications and developing innovative solutions would be killed.

So instead if Coinmen adopted a hybrid model of HRIS and KMS, where contribution
to the system as well as retrieval of information was possible, then it could promote
the culture of collaboration, brainstorming and innovation which has existed at
Coinmen
