Note by the Secretariat
1. In paragraph 3 of decision RC-9/2 on the operation of the Chemical Review Committee, the
Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for
Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade confirmed the appointments of Mr.
Dinesh Runiwal (India) to replace Mr. Manoj Kumar Gangeya and Mr. Simon Hoy (United Kingdom
of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) to replace Ms. Johanna Pelthola-Thies as members of the
Committee to serve for the remainder of Mr. Gangeya’s and Ms. Pelthola-Thies’s terms, until 30 April
2020. The curricula vitae of those members, with the exception of Mr. Lacroix, are set out in
document UNEP/FAO/RC/CRC.14/INF/3/Rev.1.
2. In paragraph 4 of the same decision the Conference of the Parties also confirmed the
appointments of Mr. Martin Lacroix (Canada) to replace Mr. Jeffery Goodman, Ms. Gloria Judith
Venegas Calderón (Ecuador) to replace Ms. Cristina Salgado, Ms. Kristīne Kazerovska (Latvia) to
replace Ms. Līga Rubene, Mr. Muhammad Shakeel Malik (Pakistan) to replace Mr. Iftikhar-ul-Hassan
Shah Gilani, and Ms. Agnieszka Jankowska (Poland) to replace Ms. Dorota Wiaderna as members of
the Committee to serve for the remainder of Mr. Goodman’s, Ms. Salgado’s, Ms. Rubene’s,
Mr. Gilani’s and Ms. Wiaderna’s terms, until 30 April 2022. The curricula vitae of these members,
with the exception of Mr. Lacroix, are set out in document UNEP/FAO/RC/CRC.14/INF/3/Rev.1. Mr.
Lacroix’s curriculum vitae is set out in document UNEP/FAO/RC/COP.9/INF/50.
3. By paragraph 5 of the same decision, the Conference of the Parties appointed the 14 designated
experts listed in the annex to that present decision to serve as members of the Committee, with terms
of office from 1 May 2020 to 30 April 2024. The curricula vitae of those members are set out in
document UNEP/FAO/RC/COP.9/INF/4/Rev.1.
4. In paragraph 6 of decision RC-9/2, the Conference of the Parties elected Ms. Noluzuko Gwayi
(South Africa) as the Chair of the Committee.
5. Following the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, Pakistan designated Zaigham
Abbas in July 2019 as replacement of Mr. Muhammad Shakeel Malik for the remainder of his term,
until 30 April 2022. The curriculum vitae of Mr. Abbas is set out in annex IV to the present note.
According to paragraph 8 of decision RC-1/6 of the Conference of the Parties on the establishment of
the Chemical Review Committee, any vacancy in the Committee arising during the intersessional
period shall be filled on an interim basis in accordance with such procedure as the region concerned

may determine. The appointment of this member is subject to confirmation by the Conference of the
Parties at its tenth meeting, to be held from 17 to 28 May 2021.
6. A table summarizing the rotation of the membership of the Committee, including the names of
the appointed members, is set out in annex I to the present note. The contact information of the current
and newly appointed members is set out in annexes II and III, respectively, to the present note.
7. The fifteenth meeting is the last meeting for two members of the Bureau: Vice-Chairs Ms.
Norma Sbarbati Nudelman (Argentina) and Ms. Marit Randall (Norway) as their terms of office end as
of 30 April 2020. For Vice-Chair Ms. Anahit Aleksandryan (Armenia), her Committee membership
has been extended for a second term from May 2020 to April 2024. At its fifteenth meeting the
Committee is to elect two Bureau members to succeed the outgoing Bureau members.
